Dear Friends,
The TV channels yesterday did an expose on the living conditions of the resident doctors in the high end hospitals in Mumbai. With rooms spilling over like garbage dumps, eight doctors sharing a single room meant for a single occupant, bugs and rat infested surroundings, unclean bedsheets and curtains, over spilling, foul smelling bathrooms, four lavatories for 100 residents, the quarters looked more like concentration camps than doctors accommodation.
If this is the condition of the premier institutions one can well imagine what goes on elsewhere. The TV anchors seethed in impotent rage as they lamblasted the authorities for the vile condition in which resident doctors were forced to live.
A placard said it all, "Should we save ourselves or save our patients?".
Are the concerned officials listening? Or has there to be a revolution to ensure
even the basic needs of these unfortunate young doctors?
Regards,
Jagannath.
