I went to Crucial(www.crucial.com) and for my HP - Compaq dc7600
Series Convertible Minitower Desktop/PC machine the suggested memory
upgrade was 1GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 memory module CT907869
costing about 23$. And, would my system be compatible with that RAM. I
guess it may, but I am a newbie in RAM so would appreciate any advice.

Can I find it for less price than that?

Can someone please clarify?

Thanks a lot.

That is a good source of information.

That sounds like a good plan to me. I haven't seen any ddr2 1G Fry's
sales lately that would beat that by much depending on the shipping.

Yes. Crucial's tool is a good one to use.

> Can I find it for less price than that?

Maybe, but not much. What is the total cost including shipping and
handling? Do you have a local lowprice storefront operation that has
sales like Fry's?

I have a great deal of confidence in the crucial memory scanner tool.

The only thing I'd double check is that its correctly identified the number
of free RAM slots you have on your motherboard (it probably has).

> Can I find it for less price than that?

It might be worth checking on the likes of eBay, but to be honest for $23
I'd buy direct from crucial, second hand RAM (eg from eBay) is almost
certainly just as good but you always run the risk of being sold a dud.

A 1GB memory upgrade will take you to 2GB, and for XP I've not seen any
benefit going beyond 2GB. The following might be of interest to you
http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/windows_how_much_ram.htm but you're
probably already aware of most of what it has to say.

HTH.
