Hello all, I recently upgraded from a T1i to a T7i, and I was looking forward to being able to transfer photos from my camera to my computer over wifi. I couldn't find instructions for doing so in the manual, but I found a few youtube videos. I got the EOS utility set up on my Mac, paired the camera, and successfully transferred some photos.

However, the process of paring the camera required me to disconnect from my wifi network and connect the computer to a wifi network listed on the camera. This was a tedious and inconvenient process, and I am wondering if I am missing something. It can't be that this is the wifi option advertised on these newer cameras? Is there really no way to just connect the camera to my existing wifi (which my computer is already on) and transfer the photos? Do I really have to switch my wifi every time I want to transfer photos?

Thanks for your reply, and for the link to the manuals! Just to clarify, I am not looking to have photos automatically save to my computer. I just want to occasionally download them from my camera to my computer, and thought that wifi connectivity would make that easy. But if I have to disconnect from my home wifi network (thus, disconnecting from the internet) to connect to the "camera's" network, then go through several steps back and forth to pair the devices, and then reconnect to my home internet when I'm done - every time I want to download a photo - it's not worth the effort, and I'll just get a cable to plug the camera in directly. Before buying a cable, I just wanted to make sure that I am not misunderstanding this.

It's probably possible to do what you want to do, but you might have to learn a bit more about WiFi networking first. Whether it's worth the trouble depends on your point of view. I'll put it to you this way: At one point in my career as a computer programmer, I could pass myself off as a WiFi expert. And I've successfully connected my 5D4 to a computer using WiFi. But I generally find it more convenient to download pictures via a USB cable or to use a card reader.

The Canon Connect Station is designed to do that. Wi-Fi transfer speeds are not the fastest in the world. The best way to download photos is either via USB or a card reader. Wi-Fi is very effective for remote controll, though.

It is a common misconception to equate "wi-fi" to mean "networkable". It fooled me, too. All it really means is that camera uses standard Wi-Fi connectivity to communicate with certain Wi-Fi enabled devices.

I do not think you can take photos, and have them automatically save to your hard drive on a computer, though. I think you would have to use Canon's Digital Photo Professional 4 Remote Shooting, and control the camera from the computer.

That is how it works running Windows, so I guess it should be the same for a MAC. Be aware that many users of Apple devices have experienced difficulty connecting to Canon cameras due to recent Apple updates. You seem fortunate to not have this issue.

I am trying to figure out whether my upload speed is limited by the WiFi speed (distance from the hotspot) or by the provider link. The computer is pretty far from the wifi hotspot; I am getting 20Mbps down and 5Mbps up. Is it possible that 5Mbps is result of a weaker antenna in the laptop and I might get a big boost by laying ethernet cable or is it more likely that this is just the speed limit that Verizon is giving us?

I'm using a new Acer laptop with Intel wifi 6 ax200 adapter. Until a few days ago, I used to get really good speeds but now the download speed seems bottlenecked, the upload speed is fine but not as high as it used to be.

5. I'm not sure but I think this started after I did the Windows 10 20H2 update from Acers update channel( I think its acers update channel because the drivers are one or two versions behind the official ones and I got the update late).

Hi Sebastian, I've just bought an HP Omen laptop (4Q6E3EA#AKE) with this "famous" wifi card Ax200. It works the same as a lot of people complaint here in this forum. I do not believe it is a matter of my router/laptop manufacturer/driver, as it works with all the tried drivers in the same shameful way....100 Mbps down and approx 80 Mbps up, when my iPhone 12 Pro Max works with 650 Mbps down and 600 Mbps up.

I put initially Win 10 Pro (21H2) on it and worked slow. I upgraded to WIn 11 Pro (21H2) and it works in the same way. I followed all the recommendations from this thread, and nothing. I've changed drivers with ones from Intel, then from HP....same behaviour.

4. What is your position from your computer to the router? Have you tried getting closer to it and see if the speed increases? Please keep in mind that the 5GHz band is faster but the signal does not get as far as the 2.4GHz band.

Locate the drivers you downloaded back in Step 1. Run as administrator, and follow the wizard to completion. To Run as administrator right-click over the file you downloaded and select the option to Run as administrator.

1. Its a modem provided by my ISP, Jio. I have gone through the modems configuration but there seems to be no option to increase compatibility for wifi 6 cards. However, as I mentioned earlier it used to work fine and even now, the upload speeds are almost as good as they used to be.

6. I do think rolling back might fix this, but sadly I don't have the old windows files anymore. I do have a recovery disk that I made while using the older version but I would need to clean install windows, I suppose, which is not a good solution for me.

7. Regarding uninstalling drivers, I noticed that even if I check the remove drivers box, after scanning for hardware changes/restarting the drivers are automatically installed. So I installed the new drivers right after uninstalling the old ones. The version numbers that are listed have changed accordingly so I suppose it worked. I tried the same with both OEM and Intel drivers, also both Bluetooth and WiFi drivers were reinstalled.

I kind of forgot to mention, the results haven't improved, and in my opinion the OEM drivers work relatively better ( speeds between 15 to 20 Mbps for download and 100+ Mbps for upload ). The intel drivers have download speeds < 10Mbps and upload speeds in 80Mbps range.
