My Grandfather and his brothers came from Zychlin. When I asked him about his family in Zychlin in 1963 he told me that they had all been murdered in WWII. He gave me no names. I am hoping that he had a cousin or two who may have escaped.

Here is all that I know-

Jacob (Jakob) Singer, B. 4/3/81, D. 8/5/52,  562-18-2075, To NY on the
Pallanza from Hamburg, 5/6/06

Sam (Schloima, Shloima, Schloime, Schlojme) Singer, B. 5/15/84, D.
3/23/67,
560-16-8756, To NY on the Pennsylvania from Hamburg, 9/8/04

Morris (Moische) Singer, B. 2/9/85, D. 5/19/64, 272-01-7524, To NY on

All three were from Zychlin, Poland.

Michael,

I found two Zyngiers on JRI-Poland at JewishGen.org in the Zychlin book of residents:  Dwojra Zyngier (b.1852; father Majer Debinski and mother Pesa Debinski) and Rywka Lesman (b.1853; father Nawtula Zyngier, mother Sura Goldstein).  It looks like Dwojra Zyngier may be your great-grandmother.

Is it possible that some of your grandfather's family's in Zychlin could have usd the surname Zygier/Zyger.  There were only two Zyngiers but there were many listings for Zygier (Zyger)  from Zychlin on JRI-Poland and also on the Yad Vashem database. I wonder if both surnames could have been used by branches of the same family.

Many of the Jews from Zychlin were murdered at the Chelmno extermination camp.  You can search the Yad Vashem database for Zychlin deaths and browse through them to look for any Zyngier or Zygier who might have been your family.

Hope this helps.

Judy - I notice that you're researching members of the Zandberg family. Do you know if there was a Rose Zandberg who would have been between 16 and 20 in 1941? The man I'm writing a book about (Aron Libfrjand) told me he had a flirtation going with Rose. When he was 90 and occasionally losing touch with reality, he insisted that she and her family bakery were down the hall from him in his nursing home. I'd love to learn more about her.

Thanks,

I don't know about Rose Zandberg, Sue.  All I know is that my grandmother's youngest sister Liba Kelmer (1908-1942) from Zychlin was married to Chaim-Wolf Zandberg.  They had a daughter, Ruchel Zandberg.  I don't know when Ruchel was born, but if she was born around 1926, she could have been about 15 in 1941.   Liba, Chaim-Wolf and Ruchel Zandberg were all murdered at Chelmno in 1942.

I am hoping that it is possible that Nathan may be a cousin of my Grandfather. It depends on whether Shmuel had brothers and who his father was. I am trying to follow every lead.

I have some things physical that are a pattern in my family.

My Great Grandfather died in Zychlin from a strangulated hernia. He got it showing off to children by picking up a boulder. My Grandfather had a hernia or two. My father had two. My brother has had four and I have had three.

My brother and I have a tooth in the front of our lower jaw that is slightly set back from the others. My father and Grandfather had the same thing. My dentist always want to straighten it. No way! It is my link with history.

I have been very tempted to have a DNA Genealogy search done.

Do you know a David Zyngier in Melbourne? I just heard from him and his father was from Biala Podlaska (near Lublin) in east Poland.

This is an old thread. I hope you are still checking this thing.
My grandfather's great-grandfather Nachman [Kalischer] Buki moved from Kalisch to Zychlin.
His son Modechai Natan Buki [married Ester] also lived in Zychlin.
Modechai Natan's son Shmuel Avraham [married Tzivia Berman] moved to Lipno.
My grandfather Yeshaya Buki lived in Lipno, after the war he moved to Israel.

Does any of this information or family name pattern ring a bell?
