to Zychlin Jewish Roots
My grandfather, Bernard Hart (né Herzkowicz), died in 1938 before I was born. The only thing I knew about him was that he was an interpreter on the trans-Atlantic liners sailing from Liverpool to the USA and that he drowned in the waters off the coast of Canada. Attached is the account of how I came to find out more.
Discovering the story about grandfather's death led me to the U.K. National Archive, which holds the naturalisation records of all applicants for British citizenship. I was able to read the application of grandfather’s brother, Mark Hart, which stated that they were born in Zychlin. With this information I found their entries in the Zychlin Book of Residents on the Jewish Gen website.
I do not know anything about the siblings of Bernard and Mark and what happened to them and their descendants.
