The "Barcode Scanner" app in the Android market-place is working great as a way to integrate my web-app to zxing's barcode scanning. What looks like the Apple app-store equivalent ( https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/barcodes-scanner/id417257150?mt=8 ) looks quite dated and, as far as I can tell, doesn't work on any of the newer devices I've tried testing it on. Am I mistaken about this? Does anyone have plans to put out a newer version? I'd prefer not to have to put my own native wrapper around this, if I can avoid it :).

Thanks,
Jon

I was working on trying to get it upgraded a while ago but never made it. I'm not actively involved in iOS development anymore, so it's harder to make time. Not to mention I'm still on a 4S. So if someone doesn't have the time/resources to contribute ….

Thanks for the quick answer Steven! This might be sort of heresy to ask on a zxing google group, but if no one has the time/energy to see this happen, is there another open-source alternative that anyone is aware of? ZBar, for example doesn't have the browser launch + URL callback support that is important for a web-app workflow. I'd love to see this happen in ZXing, but if its not just a trivial thing to do, I'm guessing there is little I can do to help since I'm a web developer without any iOS background.

Its a fine question to ask. I don't know of an alternative that supports the callback. The iOS version is dated compared to Android. Help welcome but I don't think there are plans to do more there.

Wouldn't want to be making my own advertisement here but Qrafter on iOS supports the URL callback of ZXing with {CODE} parameter. I'll add other parameters too when I can. Just wanted to get in the conversation as you wanted URL callback on iOS.

You can find Qrafter on http://qrafter.com/get/

Cheers,

Thanks Kerem! I'm having a look at your product now. Qrafter launches fine from the iOS devices I've tested it on, and scans 1D Code128 barcodes without trouble so you're already 2 points up on the zxing iOS port ;). Do you have some way to launch Qrafter from the browser (ie. URL scheme)? If you have any kind of developer document I could look at, that would be swell.

Cheers,
Jon

Hi Jon,

It is compatible with the ZXing launch scheme described on https://code.google.com/p/zxing/wiki/ScanningFromWebPages

You can use the qrafter:// scheme. Also, if you use browser=external as a parameter, it will launch Safari instead of its own in app browser.

Cheers,

Kerem

Hi Kerem,

I've tried the browser=external parameter.  However, it still launches the app browser.  URL being used is below:

qrafter://scan/?browser=external&ret=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bob.com%2Fpos-demo%2Fscanreturn.html%3Fbarcode%3D%7BCODE%7D&SCAN_FORMATS=C128A'

What I'm trying to achieve is to launch a child window which launches your barcode scanner, the return url will go back to the child window that launched the reader.

Regards

Mark

Hi Karem,

Great App!! Thanks. We still use the xzing URL scheme which opens qrafter on my device (iPhone 4s). But for Android users it will open the xzing Barcodes scanner.

Is there any chance on a dutch language resource? I could help you with translations.. We are planning to use you're app for our business which will sell you a lot of licences for the pro version..

Thanks again!
Robin
