New issue 655 by jamie.mckinney: zxing.appspot.com/scan doesn't trigger app
http://code.google.com/p/zxing/issues/detail?id=655
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Barcode Scanner app is already installed
2. view webpage in the default android web browser and click on link to
http://zxing.appspot.com/scan
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The Barcode Scanner app should start, but instead a webpage displays
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Android 2.2 + 2.29.405.2 on HTC Desire
Please provide any additional information below.
Prior to the 2.29.405.2 update this did actually work. Since the update it
hasn't. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Barcode app, and
clearing the defaults and data for the Internet browser. From what I can
tell the app manifest still has the necessary intent filters to trigger the
app when the url is requested, so I don't know why this isn't working. I
realise that it may not be a problem with the barcode scanner app, but I
thought it would be good to get confirmation that either others are seeing
this same behaviour, or not.

I'm not seeing that unfortunately. As you say it's still set OK in the
manifest and hasn't changed. My only guess is that you chose Browser to
handle this at some point, somehow, and that's saved. You can clear that by
going to its app page under settings and pressing something like "clear
defaults".
you're right - I don't think this is a bug with ZXing. If anything it
looks like an issue with the 2.29.405.2 upgrade - a colleague has
experienced the same problem (the Barcode Scanner app would start when the
zxing.appsot.com/scan link was clicked, but not since the 2.29.405.2
upgrade), and someone else has reported the same behaviour in response to a
thread I started elsewhere
(http://androidforums.com/desire-support-troubleshooting/233503-2-29-405-2-affected-browser.html).
Given that, this issue can be closed and I'll try and raise one against
2.29.405.2 (if I can find where to do that).
Same problem on Android 2.2 HTC Desire
