New issue 536 by walemond: mailto links not populating emails on MyTouch
Slide
http://code.google.com/p/zxing/issues/detail?id=536

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Scan the attached QR with the MyTouch Slide
2. Choose "Send email"
3. Choose "GMail" or "Email"
4. Notice that once the email is created, nothing is populated (i.e. To,
Subject, Body)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The email that is created from the actions should be populated (i.e. To,
Subject, Body).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Barcode Scanner v3.4 with Android 2.1 Update 1. This functionality works
on the Droid Incredible (same OS), but does not work on the MyTouch Slide.

Please provide any additional information below.
The attached file is simply a QR
with "mailto:wale...@gmail.com?subject=subject&body=body" encoded in it.
Not sure why it works on the Droid Incredible but not the MyTouch Slide
when they are both using the same OS.

Yes, works for me too. Your mailto: URI is correct, and the code is setting
up the Intent correctly. If there's an issue, it's in the platform or with
the app on the other end.

I have an iphone4.
Using Quickmark Reader. Generated an email QR on the Quickmark website.
Scanned it and worked as expected. Generated an additional QR on the zxing
site and had the same issue as reported above. The scan resolves into
plain text with "mailto:some...@gmail.com". What would be the difference
in the two QRcodes being generated?

I cannot reproduce this. The QR code above works fine and it recognized as
an "email" type code.

I was able to get the raw text from the qrcode that worked on the iphone4
that properly populated the appropriate fields in the new email. It is
using "SMTP:" vs. "mailto:" is this an iphoneOS requirement or a
Quickmark Reader implementation choice? I have tried several QRcode
generators and they all seem to use mailto: format and they all also fail
using quickmark4 reader. If you know of any other readers for the Iphone4,
I would be interested in knowing and testing them to see if they are using
mailto: or smtp:

Can you point me to where the standard formats are published? It would
appear that with QuickMark using SMTP on a large consumer base of iPhones
that any email qrcodes in the US at least are not going to work. I emailed
Quickmark and have included their response below. I thought there was some
partnership between Google and QuickMark

anyway, where can i find the definitive standards list?

Dear Roger,

Thank you very much for your email.

Currently MATMSG: and SMTP: headers are defined for emails (by NTT DoCoMo
and Taiwan's OMI@).

As QR Codes become more common and more organizations/companies are
generating QR Codes, there will be some new 'standards' that gain more
popularity than others. We will try to add support for these new formats as
we further improve our app.

Thanks again and please let us know if you have further questions or
comments.
