I read this post, but in my Android 2.3 device it doesn't work.
Have you any code to try ?

You should read the comments in that issue.
Basically it explains, that making it Portrait is non-trivial.
Some of the comments *MAY* help you in a particular case.
The comments did not help me though.
There is an enhanced version in the Google Play Market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.srowen.bs.android
It is not free, but should support scanning in Portrait mode.
