Just an FYI for anyone who might be interested, but Grant Kugler ('95)
died over the weekend. He had been battling alcoholism, depression,
and God only knows what else for quite a while. When I last saw him
(earlier in the spring), he was in horrible shape, jaundiced from a
failing liver, had no job, lost his home, and his fiance had recently
left him. Several of us reached out trying to help get him treatment
and counseling, but were not that successful. I think Caskey probably
had the most recent contact with him, checking him into a voluntary
treatment program in Topeka (I believe that was in April). Grant
checked out of the program a week later, and I'm pretty sure nobody
heard from him after that. His dad discovered him dead in a Lawrence
apartment over the weekend. Not sure yet when the funeral will be,
but it should be in the next couple of days in Lyndon, KS. Let me
know if you want the details (Caskey should have them in the next day
