dev build based on firefox 128 — update your plugins

In January 2025, we'll be releasing a version of Zotero that's built from Firefox 128 ESR instead of Firefox 115 ESR.

We expect the changes for plugin developers to be fairly minimal, so we're hoping to push out a beta build based on Firefox 128 on December 21, 2024.

We've made Firefox 128–based builds available for testing on the 'dev' channel:

As usual, this channel will only be active until we push out a beta with these changes.

As always, you can use Zotero.platformMajorVersion to test whether a Zotero build is based on Firefox 115 or 128, which will allow you to update your plugin in advance of the Zotero beta that includes these changes.

We didn't end up releasing the beta last month, but we're now planning to release a beta based on Firefox 128 on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

If you haven't yet tested your plugin with the current 'dev' channel build, please do so now.

We've also updated the app version number to 7.1, so if you've specified a `strict_max_version` of `7.0.*` in your plugin's manifest.json, you'll want to update that to `7.1.*`. (You should also be able to just change `strict_max_version` in your update manifest without putting out a version of the plugin with an updated manifest.json immediately.)

In Zotero Beta 7.1, there is a bug with "locale" loading. My Zotero is in Chinese, but the plugin always in English, which won't happen in previous versions.

and both "Preferences Pane" and "MenuPopup" have this "locale" problem.
