Web API: Include items from subcollections in Atom feed

Fetching the top-level items in a collection by <userOrGroupPrefix>/collections/<collectionKey>/items/top unfortunately does not return items in any of the subcollections. Is there any way to include them? This would be the API analogue of the option "show items from subcollections" in the GUI.
