Linking authors to external ids

Maybe this has been discussed before. If one would like to uniquely identify authors using external identifiers such as GND-ID, ORCID, etc, within Zotero (either manually or automated through some plugin), what would you think is the best way to store that information? Possible solutions are

• Adding a tag such as "Schmidt, Thomas [https://lobid.org/gnd/132887754]"
  Pro: searchable; Con: need to invent mini-protocol for parsing, unclear how to deal with multiple IDs
  
• Adding an "extra" field such as "gnd-id: 132887754"
  Pro: more granular, can handle multiple ids;  Con: not really searchable

The "Related" linking would be ideal but it is not configurable yet.

I just realize that the "extra" solution of course also needs encoding/decoding when there is more than one author
