I’m still experiencing the PDF rendering issue in Zotero 10 (10.0.2-beta.7)’s built-in PDF reader. It seems to be related to the “Odd Spreads (No Cover)” page layout, and I can also reproduce it quite often with some bilingual/side-by-side PDFs.
When the issue occurs, the text on the PDF pages looks noticeably blurry, as if the rendered page has been slightly scaled after rasterization.
The unusual part is that if I drag over/select some text, the area around the selected text suddenly becomes sharp again, while the rest of the page remains blurry. This makes it look like the affected region is being repainted at a different or correct resolution.
For example, in the attached screenshot, most of the page appears blurry. After interacting with/selecting text in a certain area, that particular area becomes noticeably sharper, but other parts of the same page remain blurry.
Steps to reproduce:
Open a PDF in Zotero’s built-in reader.
Enable a two-page layout using Odd Spreads (No Cover).
In some PDFs, especially bilingual or side-by-side PDFs, the page/text becomes blurry.
Drag over or select some text on the blurry page.
The interacted area may become sharp, while the remaining parts of the page stay blurry.
Changing the zoom level or switching the page layout sometimes causes the page to be re-rendered and temporarily restores sharpness.
