Hierarchical item types or book chapters as childs

Hello everyone,

I’ve been using Zotero for several years and really appreciate the work that goes into it. Recently, I started thinking about contributing to the project.

One long-standing feature request that has always been of interest to me is hierarchical item types (e.g., book chapters as children of a book). I’ve found several related discussions in the forum:

I understand that this topic has significant technical and conceptual implications. Before investing time into it, I would like to ask:

• Is this feature currently being worked on or planned?

• Are there architectural constraints or prior design decisions I should be aware of?

• Would contributions in this area be welcome at this stage?

I would be very happy to work on this, but I want to ensure alignment with the project's direction first.
