Hi,

I'm running Zotero on a Debian/Sid installation (great software!). I
noticed Zotero is complaining about not having an installation of xpdf-
utils to index PDFs.

However, in many Linux distributions, the same functionality
(pdftotext, pdfinfo) is offered by the poppler-utils package.

I wonder if it wouldn't be best to check for either xpdf-utils or
poppler-utils or at least to check if pdftotext and pdfinfo are
already installed?

Cheers,
Carlos

Zotero requires a customized version of pdfinfo that can save its output
to a text file, so it can't just check for an existing version. You can
create a symlink to an existing version of pdftotext on Linux and OS X
(but not Windows, since in addition to the pdfinfo patch Windows
requires modified binaries that run in the background).

See http://www.zotero.org/documentation/pdf_fulltext_indexing for more info.

Oh, I see. That makes sense.

Thanks, Dan.
