According to ZDnet Microsoft will for the first time in the company's
history borrow money for its Yahoo deal. I fully support Leo Laporte's
comments on This Week in Tech (www.twit.tv) that this deal could spell
the end of both Yahoo and Microsoft. Yahoo has nothing that can really
help Microsoft. They are a company that tried to dethrone Google and
failed miserably already. Microsoft's own search engine failed to
measure up to Google also. Microsoft has announced strong sales of
Vista but if you look at the sales statistics of PCs you see that they
are the same. Vista is selling "only" because of PC sales, nobody is
buying it in the stores. Service Pack 1 is coming but I personally
think its too little too late. If Microsoft removed the Windows Content
Protection DRM from Vista with SP1 they might attract more users, but I
doubt they'll do that until they develop a new Windows version (Windows
7) and if that version has DRM at the same level as Vista does it will
be DOA in the hearts and minds of users worldwide before it even hits
the market. No, in my opinion we are witnessing Microsoft's fall from
grace, they might not go away entirely but I doubt that they'll be
entirely all that relevant by year's end.
