Viral video website and Youtube clone (they have more relaxed content
standards than Youtube and allow adult oriented content) www.veoh.com
has launched their own Internet Video-On-Demand service called VeohTV.
The software is in open-beta right now and I've been one of the first
in North America to try it out.

Unlike Joost, created by the creators of Skype, VeohTV does not use
P2P technology to accelerate the delivery of streaming video. The
client software is built using Adobe Flash Player and can support the
Flash Video format, Quicktime, and Windows Media video files. The
service brings together Veoh.com's own viral videos, video webcasts
from all over the Internet, and some limited exclusive content into
one interface. Among the channels available are The Science Channel,
Cartoon Network, Anime Network, AnimeTV hosted by Johnny Yong Bosh (VA
for Kenada in the redubbing of Akira), and more.

The software isn't as resource intensive as Joost, thought this is an
older Athlon XP computer overlclocked to 1.6GHz. Those of you with
newer machines shouldn't have a problem with Joost. Overall the
VeohTV experience has been good, its interface needs a little tweaking
but overall I'd say this has the making of a good contender for a
Joost competitor.

As I said before this is a glimpse of the future of how regular cable
TV will eventually become, yet the cable companies will get there
kicking and screaming but this is what people are demanding. The
ability to pick and choose what we want to see, when we want to see it
and not when the networks or the cable company says we can see it.
Its called ala cart cable TV and its coming soon than the cable
companies think.

I watched the 1st Annual North American Anime Awards last night on the
Anime Network Channel. There isn't any "Anime" on this channel, just
DVD Dojo or Anime Access episodes. Hopefully there will eventually be
a channel with actual anime on-demand soon like there is on the Gong
Channel in Joost. I'll keep you all posted on this and the Joost
service develop over next few months.
