I might be able to participate remotely.

Any "newbie" tickets that I could work on?

That would be lovely.

Well the first thing is to install Paul Sephton’s grok project, and report if it works for you as well.

I would have done it by now, but my days are being consumed by Startup Poland Accelerator.

Thank you for volunteering.

I had a bit of time to think about what project you might enjoy.

And of course that is the first rule of open source software, you should work on what you enjoy.

Unlike a job. ;-)

So tell us what interests you and we will see what we can recommend.

In the meantime, I have some ideas.  testing out grok.project is a good start.  Whenever I approach an open source project, I find the best thing to do is to write documentation.  I read the code, maybe I do not quite understand it, so I write what I understood.  If I get it right, perfect.  If I get it wrong, the senior developers are always keen to correct it.  Either way, my understanding of the software increases.

Some people like to write docs, some do not.  It all depends on you.  Paul is wonderful, both a good software developer, and good at docs.  You might want to start by reviewing the grok tutorial he wrote..

You can find the link here:

Look for “Grok tutorial"

Subject: [Zope] First Zope 4 beta release in preparation
Date: August 24, 2017 at 10:39:03 AM GMT+2

Hi there,

from 13th to 15th of September 2017 gocept hosts the "Zope 4 Phoenix Sprint" to "help to raise Zope 4 from the ashes!"

We already released six alpha versions which currently run on Python 2.7 and Python 3.
The goal of the sprint is to release a first beta version of Zope 4.
This means we will make a feature freeze. Up to the release we are still open to decide what will be part of Zope 4 and what will be removed.

You are invited to:

* join the sprint in Halle(Saale), Germany; see https://www.meetup.com/Zope-Sprint/events/240315699

* check the documentation of Zope 4 to see if it fits your needs:

 + http://zope.readthedocs.io/en/latest/changes.html

* join the discussion here on the list or in the Github issue tracker: https://github.com/zopefoundation/Zope/issues

* try out the latest alpha release with your code and tell us where and how it breaks, so we can improve the documentation resp. the code

Hi;  Looks like your iframes are not properly loading my site content.

I may or may not be able to make that sprint (remote participation).  I will try, but I have a bunch of commitments coming up.

The site at gfn.aptrackers.com has been updated to describe github/grokproject based installation while I am waiting for a pull request merge.  Also I have some new docs at http://www.aptrackers.com/gfn/In+a+Nutshell.  I would appreciate a proof read and crit.

Kind regards,
P

So I downloaded grok.project and made it run on python 3, except for a function coming from PasteScript. I could send a PR on github if someone has not done this job already.

I tried to load http://grok.zope.org and it's dead. There used to be a Plone site there wit the official documentation. That can be exported to sphinx and published through readthedocs.org.

I can write documentation for Grok. But I remember that documentation for Grok was fairly decent. There's also Carlos' book for Grok 1.0. So we don't start from scratch.
