Can you only have one template per item type in a database?

I am trying to (in my first and basic example) have both a standard note template and a "health log" note template in one database (item type is Note in both cases), where the standard template has no fields showing above the item editor and the health log template has various fields above the item editor for exercise details, etc.

Although I set the default view to be associated with the standard template and the health log view to be associated with the health log template, the default view still shows the health log fields above the item editor.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

You certainly can have more than one template of an item type. For example, I have a number of email templates for information I send out repeatedly. You can also have different layouts as well (which would handle the different fields).

Thanks, Derek!

It turns out that perhaps my issue was that I had initially edited the single, default template as the one with additional fields, because I did it before I was thinking about templates. When I went back and made the database's original template the one with no fields and created a new template with fields, I was able to achieve what I was hoping.

Now my question is, is there a way to retroactively associate a template with existing items? I see that new items in a view do show the associated template, but the existing ones do not. This isn't super important, now that I know how it works; just curious if it is possible.

Thanks,
Chris
