Quiet afternoon, thought I would have a play with Zoot email to see whether Zoot could replace Outlook (the desktop app).

Using Zoot 9.2, Windows 10

Created new mail database, added the outlook account, tried Send and receive and nothing happened.  I have TFA set on the account, but I wasn't asked to authenticate anything.Could this be causing the problem?

Zoot cannot connect with Microsoft accounts just yet.

I periodically return to the task, hoping that they've sorted things out, but so far it's no go.  I've spent at least 100 hours trying to figure this out.

I hoped AI would help me figure it out, but Microsoft keeps changing the names of their various services, so AI gets confused.

Microsoft has no interest in helping 3rd party software vendors tap into their systems. Their profit center is in keeping users tied to their enterprise offerings.

Very disappointing, though not really surpising. I've uised Microsoft products since the first IBM PC came out, but dealing with the company leaves an increasngly bad taste in my mouth.

I'm going to give it another whirl as soon as I get this latest long-awaited update out the door.

I must say, I'm rather liking the new AI features MS is building into Windows. Also, Copilot in Edge browser is very useful.  I often send Zoot items to the browser and then use Copilot to summarize or perform some other this or that.

Tom, Stephen, Hi to you, both.  Here are a few of my thoughts on the matter of MS and it's continued arrogance. Although MS has improved their product line-up, I got so disgusted that I switched over to Vivaldi a few years back.

It's got soooo many functions built into the framework (based on Chrome). It is extremely customizable, it is consumed by user privacy, it has integrated mail, calendar, browsing, extensive tabbing, stacking, session, workplace features. It is user friendly but backed up by a fabulous international team of developers and community wizards who are extremely supportive. It is English language based on the forum but it supports many languages.

It has excellent, well organized forums. It's easy to customize almost 100% of the program with the aid of an extensive -- again well organized -- knowledge base. Advertising is verboten and it is free, no strings attached.

Tom, Vivaldi is NOT Zoot and it is sure-as-hell , is not MS -- but IMO, if you are going to spend 100 of your precious hours twiddling around trying to make MS work, I think you are nutz!  I'm sure, with your talent and knowledge, that you could better spend any of your 100 hours looking for ways to bend Vivaldi to Zoot ways AND they welcome 3rd party developers. I don't believe it has to be MS or Vivaldi but I am sure not taking a good hard look at Vivaldi and all that it has to offer, is a wasted resource. I bow to your expertise, of course, Tom, but this is my extremely humble opinion.

I've always done my best to keep Zoot agnostic with respect to browsers.

Zoot does nothing special with Microsoft Edge, I only mention it because it does have the copilot sidebar built in, and that is very useful when used with the Zoot Print to Browser function. [Ctrl+P]

I will tell you that I have no intention of working with ANY 3rd party software after what's happened with, first Twitter, and now Pocket. Twitter was the worst, as I spent a decade and 1000s of hours working on that code. Ripping that code out of Zoot was traumatic.

I'm sticking with RSS (feeds) and Email, as those are web technologies and not tied to any one company.

Now, you might ask, but what about Reddit?  Well, Zoot is using RSS to fetch Reddit posts, so still feeds and no hefty code investment there.

lol - sorry, didn't mean to be so brusque. I'm a bit sore about the whole Pocket thing.

Never a problem. I've sort of gotten to "know" you over decades even though we've never met. Ok, enuf reminiscing. Back to coding.
