After installing I can't get it to work properly. I get the following
error:
C:\opencbm\bin>cbmctrl.exe detect
ERROR: No xu1541 device found
When I plug in the USB cable the PC makes the usual beep sound and the
light on the Zoomfloppy comes on for about a second and then goes out.
The red light on the disk drive also goes on and drive motor starts
spinning for a few seconds as well and then stops and the red light
goes out.
I have tried two different 1541 drives and both give the same results.
When I look at the device manager I see:
libusb-win32 devices
XUM1541 USB floppy adapter (ZoomFloppy)
The driver shows 02/10/2010 as the date and 1.2.2.0 as the version.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Owner of an original Pet 4032 I bought back in 1982!
I tried rerunning "instcbm" with no parameters and it after that it
still didn't work
So then I retried "instcbm xum1541" and then it started working after
that.
Thanks!
kevin
Just for future reference, you need to just double-click on the install.bat file. If you get a message about some other adapter not working, try editing opencbm.conf in the Windows directory and make sure the default plugin is "xum1541" for the ZoomFloppy.

That means that you installed OpenCBM with xu1541 being the default.
C:\opencbm\bin>cbmctrl -@xum1541 detect
should have worked, though, as it explicitly calls for the xum1541
driver (instead of the xu1541 driver)

No. Do not advise people to edit opencbm.conf by hand. Better, use
instcbm and issue an
instcbm xum1541
to make the xum1541 the default. (as the OP already did)
I have had some reports of people with problems, because they broke the
opencbm.conf by editing it by hand. Do not do this, and do not advise
people to do so, please, to save me (and you?) additional bug reports.

Spiro.

Ok thanks.

So far I've extracted 6 disks of Pet games. I've uploaded them here:
http://www.scale18.com/pet123456.zip
I also started working on a little sample emulator that plays PET
games, it has a main menu with a list of games and you can select a
game and them play it.
It uses the joystick and keyboard for input. The version in the zip
file below is for PC and uses Directx-9. I also have it running on my
development kit Xbox360, and next I would like to get it running as a
native app in Chrome.
http://www.scale18.com/petemu.zip
One thing that I have noticed is that a bunch of the games I wrote
that are on the disks above is that they don't properly run in Vice
with the 4032 selected. I think there must be different ROMS in Vice
for the 4032 than my PET had since I developed all those games on my
PET back in 1981 and 82 and they worked just fine.
I have about 500 disks of PET, VIC-20 and C64 games to go through. I
have 3 1541s (2 work), a 1571 what works and a 1571-II that I can't
seem to find the power supply for. I tried turning on my PET but
unfortunately it seems to be dead. I also have a 4040 as well but
nothing to test it with.
Cheers,

You may not know it but you can do full-track GCR dumps of protected floppies using nibread, included in the ZoomFloppy installation. You can write them back using nibwrite also.
On the 1571, you don't even have to install a parallel cable. The "-s" flag indicates that high-speed serial nibbling should be used. We upload a routine that programs the CIA in 2 MHz 500 Kbit/sec mode and streams out GCR.

I now have my PET emulator that I mentioned above running as a Chrome
native-client application.
