I was under the impression that I could print to my Star NX-1000C from
WinVice via ZoomFloppy (usb). I can't seem to make it happen. Under
peripherals I select Printer 4 and choose Real IEC. I can communicate
with my 1541 no problem (only on device 8, bummer) but not to a serial
printer.

Has anyone been able to make this work? Is it possible? Thanks.

OpenCBM can print if you use the cbmctrl command line:

Send file contents to printer #4:
cbmctrl lock
cbmctrl listen 4 0
cbmctrl write filename
cbmctrl unlisten
cbmctrl unlock

However, I don't think VICE has implemented support for printers attached to OpenCBM yet. However, I haven't tried so I wouldn't know for sure.

Thanks for the reply. So based on this can I print from VICE to a
file and then issue the command ie.; cbmctrl write viceprintfile
to achieve the same results?

You'd have to do the other commands I listed also, but yes, that should work. You could put those in a batch file.

This sequence is even listed in the man page of cbmctrl. It is not easy
to find, though.

VICE makes no distinction between printers and floppy drives. If it does
not work there, it is a bug and should be filed against VICE and/or
OpenCBM.

One question though: You do not happen to use a 32 bit VICE on a 64 bit
Windows system? In this case, VICE cannot access OpenCBM. Use a 64 bit
VICE version instead, that should work.

If you are using the right versions of VICE: Does the vice.log file give
any hints? (Please pack it up and send it to me privately, so I can have
a look into it.)

Regards,
Spiro.

Thank you, yes it is a 64bit system (Win7). However when I downloaded
the OpenCBM and ZoomFloppy package it installed 32bit OpenCBM and
wouldn't work with my 1541. Read through the forums I found that I
need to be using 32bit Vice. So I switched and access to my 1541
worked fine. However, after researching today I realize there is a 64
bit OpenCBM package. Question I have now, how do I utilize the 64bit
files? Do I need to remove the 32bit versions? The ZoomFloppy
package had a nice installer, I do not see that for the 64 bit
package. Also, can you verify the latest OpenCBM build that I should
be using?

Thanks again!

In case anyone is curious, printing a to file from VICE (RAW) then
using the commands above works. I would still like however to get it
working directly from Vice. There must be a way. Thanks!!

Just released "cbmage", to print (through opencbm) graphics (better if PNG) to a CBM MPS 803 directly from PC or Mac:
