Hi folks-

Trying here, as I'm not sure my request that I sent through the store's "Contact Us" form made it to anyone. Unfortunately, I didn't keep a copy of what I wrote, and I'm working from not the best memory. But here we go!

I ordered and received a ZoomFloppy back in January (2023), but I've only gotten around to giving it a whirl until very recently.

I followed all of the instructions at https://opencbm.trikaliotis.net/opencbm-9.html for getting OpenCBM installed on my Linux machine. That was easy.

When I plugged everything in and switched everything on, I got a solid LED on the ZoomFloppy that stayed on, and I also got a solid activity LED on my 1541 that stayed on. Both LEDs remained on and solid unless I removed power (which I gather is a bad sign - that said, the 1541 remains healthy after all of these tests).

None of the cbmctrl commands did anything useful. All of the error messages were some flavor of:

error: no xum1541 device found
error: no xum1541 device found
cbmctrl: libusb/xum1541:: Resource temporarily unavailable

Running lsusb told me my machine wasn't recognizing the device, regardless of what USB port I tried.

After reading through many of this group's threads, I tried taking the 1541 out of the loop. Same result. I fear from what many of y'all have said that this device is one of the DOA ones that accidentally got shipped out.

Incidentally, the PCB has a strange gold dot in the corner (highlighted):

Not sure if this was some sort of marking like the gold X mentioned in another post.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Matt

To me, this sounds like a defective device, or, at least, a missing firmware.

Spiro

If it is a missing firmware, is there a way I can test that and or fix it myself?

I got it :-), but I've been out of pocket since Saturday.

If it's won't at least show up in a lsusb as xum1541 or atmega32u2, I'll
send you a new one.

Hey, Jim. No problem! I was just concerned it had disappeared into a bit bucket somewhere. Thanks for the help!
