to Zoom G9.2tt Patch Bank
Hi, I THINK this is my first post. Might've made one a few months ago,
I can't remember...

Anyway, I've had my ZG9.2tt for about 6 Mos now. I replaced a Rocktron
Voodu Valve, which I actually loved. The problem with it is that it
made the guitar's volume knobs pretty useless. You know how you can
roll off the volume on your guitar to clean the sound up a bit? That
wouldn't work with the VV. One volume, but absolutely the best sounds
I've ever had from a guitar unit. I could've added a volume pedal, but
was trying to get the smallest setup I could for clubs.

Because of the volume thing, I switched to the Zoom. I'm more a rhythm
player than anything else, so all I really needed was a few great
clean sounds, a solo sound (for when I do the rare guitar solo), and a
decent overdrive for rhythms.

On the clean sounds, I find that the Zoom delivers really well. I can
get that Roland Jazz Chorus amp sound that just has a such a great
clean sound. The Zoom reproduces it very well. Add a touch of chorus
and it works great.

Where I'm finding difficulty is the overdrive. I cannot seem to get
one that doesn't sound like a real transistory, Bostony, kind of
sound. With the Voodu Valve, I was able to get a really REALLY
realistic and powerful rhythm distortion. With the Zoom, my sound
doesn't really cut through and gets kind of lost. Ideally, it'd be
great to add the distortion to the Roland Amp sound I'm using. From my
understanding, I really can't do that and have to switch preamps to
one that uses a lot of distortion, but also, unfortunately, whimps it
out.

I play covers- anything from The Beatles, to Ac/Dc, to Prince, to
Queen. So I'm not looking for any kind of metal type of sound, just a
great distortion that cuts through.

Am I missing something in my approach? I've used the computer software
to tweak the sounds for all my guitars, but a great rhythmic and
punchy distortion seems to be eluding me. Any hints would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks
BW

Whats your set up like when playing shows or setting up your sounds,
are you using headphones, going direct to the board using an amp, if
so which amp? have you tried tinkering with the "tube esque" like
controls on the unit (which unfortunately don't get saved with your
patch settings) Let us know some more info so we can better help you
out.

Thanks for the reply MP- cool.
I go direct to the PA and I split the signal. A mono signal goes to
the PA and the other out goes to a powered monitor that's in front of
me. Being a lead singer and in the middle, there was always griping
about where to put my amp, so I went for this solution.

When I'm dialing in my sounds, I use the same setup, minus the PA. I
don't really crank the volume when I'm dialing things in. I put it at
a decent volume, but if it's too loud, it makes it more difficult to
know what I'm getting.

Regarding the Tube dials- you know, I've tried them to varying degrees
but don't notice THAT much difference. Plus, as you mention, you can't
save those settings. So there's no way I could hit a distorted patch,
then bend down in the middle of a song to tweak those.

Does that help?

Yeah i find with all these things getting a distorted sound is more
difficult than the clean. Its good that you are using a similiar set
up at home to what u use live. Since you are going straight into a
powered speaker source we don't need to worry about an amp mucking up
the sound much. My first tip is get to know and use the 6 band eq
that the zoom has on board. Also u may want to find out if that
monitor u are using is a flat response full bandwith speaker and
that it's not made to empahseize one source more than another.

Not sure how I'd find that out. The monitor has an EQ that I leave
flat.
I notice on some of the patch sites out there that there are a ton of
distortion LEAD sounds, but not many rhythm sounds, if any. I was
thinking that might help, but I can't seem to find any.

I stressed to set the tubes at around 10 o'clock (all about 3,3 and
3,3)
this worked for me to get massive distortion noise OUT of my clean
sound mostly when playing along through headphones.
it may be wise to set up everything to your bypass volume find your
cleanest tone (not bypassed) set the tubes (play and study how it
sounds through your live rig)
then find a distorted patch you like... and mess with the tubes again.

Ciao, sapete dove posso trovare dei patch da utilizzare con Fender Sambora e diffusori voce per ottenere un suono alla Steve Lukether? Ciao!

Also make sure the decibel switch on the back of the unit is set
correctly.
I believe mine is set at -10. And when I said it to -4 I get a lot
more noise.
