When I began working on Ana's pedigree (Krestovskaja Anastacia) a couple of years ago, I emailed various lists and kennels for info.  I received a mountain of information along with various stories about different dogs in her background.  I had been asking about Graf Alexander and one of the stories I received was on St. Nicol's Diana (Alba vd Priemersche Heide x Rune v Silberhof), which I thought was very interesting since St. Nicol's Diana is behind many of the european dogs.  I received this story from Maryann Conran of Carousel Borzoi:

According to an interview with Angela Krupe, owner of the Alexander Kennel, after she had lost one of her breeding bitches to an illness via a dog show, she had been in contact with another Borzoi breeder, Mrs. Elisabeth Charlotte Doring. Mrs Doring had 3 litters at the time but only 6 females and all were spoken for. One of the bitch puppies was returned and so Angela took her and named the pup St. Nicol's Diana. Diana was bred for the first time in 1955 to Condor Alexander. Angela was so pleased with the litter that it was repeated 3 more times. Those were the Alexander 'D', 'E', 'G' and 'H' litters.

Graf Alexander was a German champion and had won the prestigious Bundessieger in 1962 and 64. His most famous offspring was Ch. Graf v. St. Mauritius owned by Mr. & Mrs. Schrader. Graf Alexander was used by a number of other kennels and twice by Mrs. Krupe for her 'O' and 'R' litters.

Graf Alexander's pedigree reads like this:
