The latest gopro HERO3 firmware is located here on their site. I recommend checking that you have the latest GOPRO HERO3 firmware by following these instructions. This is the list of the latest GOPRO HERO3 updates.

Recently, I was able to solve the issue by updating the firmware and wifi settings within a single update package (there are different options for updates on the GoPro website). This allowed me to reset the wifi password and finally fully unlock my GoPro that I bought used back when I originally made this post. Looks like the combined update wasn't working during my first go-around with this issue, but the GoPro website should be working now.

Firmware error with the GoPro Hero3 Black

So, I recently got a used gopro hero 3+ black edition, it was working great until I tried to connect it to my phone via the capture app. So I tried to reset and give it a new password it via the instructions on gopro's website. I made sure that the name and password I used was compliant. I got the update folder on the micro sd and put it into the gopro. When I turned it on it fired up as usual like the sd card wasn't even in it, it didn't automatically update. I was however able to get the firmware updated by choosing to update the firmware only. I had tried the option to update the firmware and wifi together as per the option on gopros website but every time I tried this option the download folder button was greyed out. I have looked around a bunch trying things that other people tried. I tried using multiple different micro sd cards, formatting them in windows and within the gopro itself. Even the password given to me by the previous owner didn't work.

I have never had an issue with the Hero 3 crashing or freezing. However when I owned a Hero 2 it did crash or freeze every so often. I managed to work out through a little trial and error that the SD card was to blame. There are loads of dodgy/fake SD cards out there and I had managed to pick one up. Since then I have bought my cards from only a few select online suppliers.

The best-case scenario would appear to be that GoPro can fix this quickly with an emergency firmware update (apparently, there was already a firmware update scheduled for mid-November to add features like Max Lens Mod compatibility). Hopefully, there are some tweaks they can make. And the sooner, the better.

Hi, just resolved the on /off problem with my go pro hero3+. The additional battery add was uncharged whilst the integral battery was fully charged. Remove add on battery and charge up and the problem is solved!

Almost the same thing here in the gopro Hero 3 white edition. The internal clock resets very fast, from the moment i take out the battery. As far i can remmember that clock problem started with the latest and most recent firmware update on the GP3 in 2014 (check GP-site). I asume that the firmware update did kill the internal battery (and clock), yes i did notice this a month after updating. Now i use the camera with a powersource Always on, which means i can only switch a external battery without being connected to something that feeds the power when switching the battery, or having it constant connected to a usb powersource. So check when you had the last update on your hero 3+ and when the problem started.

my hero 3 black freezes up frequently and can only be reset by removing the battery. As most of my activities are in or under the water, this is not an ideal solution! I was advised to check that the SD card was correct, which I have done. I was then advised to ensure that I had the latest firmware loaded, which I have also done. Any thoughts from a more seasoned user?

I was wondering if there's anyone that can help me. I purchased a Hero 3 black edition and can't get it to work right. I'm having the same issue as a lot of others with the video cutting off after about 1 or 2 minutes while shooting 1080 @60fps using Protune mode. I have a Sandisk 64 gb class 10 card that I thought would be good for what I need. If I keep it in "Auto" mode then I have better results, but I'd really like to have this thing work as advertised.

I was pretty frustrated with my GoPro when I first got it. It had tons of issues like you said. However, I patiently waited and worked around the ones I could. Before too long they issued a firmware update that resolved all of my issues.

Here is a video I shot of our trip to the Great Wolf Lodge indoor water park with the GoPro III black. It contains 2.7K, 1080p @ 60 FPS, 720p @ 120 FPS, and 480p @ 240 FPS footage. You can tell what is 240 FPS footage by the flicker in the lights. The 2.7K and 720p @ 120 FPS modes were my favorite for this setting.

New here and to the gopro black edition. just wondering if i need special software or a faster computer to view the recordings from the new gp3? they seem very bumpy even with the cineform from gopro. any help would be greatly appreciated...

hey, i got my gopro hero 3 black edition a few days ago and was very disapointed. I turned on the 2.7k mode and expected it to be amazing. But since I use a Windows computer, I use Windows Media Player to play my videos. This built in software never failed me in the bast with my Gopro hero 2 a while ago. but now it does. Whenever i take a 2.7k video on the hero 3 and then watch it through Windows Media Player, it is VERY choppy and it doesnt play the audio! this if recording at 30 FPS but its acting like its playing at 10 FPS. Videos play perfectly on 1080p 30 FPS with no chopiness and it also plays the audio with the video. Why is it that when i record at 2.7k 30 FPS it looks EXTREMELY choppy and theres no audio? Is it because Windows Media Player can't handle the file???? Even in GOPRO CINEFORM STUDIO and WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER can't handle the file and makes it choppy! PLEASE help as i think im the only one with this problem and i need to record with it ASAP to shoot stuff. HELP.

I just bought my gopro 3 black. I have gopro hero 2 for 2 years. Also have macbook pro. I am very sd that there is no possiblilty to play movies or edit greater than 1080 on my device. What equipment should I have to play 2,7K smoothly ? There was no information about the requirements on gopro website. That is not very good for beginners and film making rookies like me. Should I change graphic card or something? thx

I was using my gopro hero 3 Black edition - got it for Christmas. Everything was fine once I had the right drivers on my PC (still using an XP). I used it last 3 weeks ago, then decided to use it yesterday for the first time. I charged the camera up - then turned it on, it gave me the NO SD error.
What I did: I took it out of the camera and put it into the card reader: it was like I had a blank card reader.

During my first attempt to use card I tried to transfer a bunch of files onto the card using a card reader but within the first few seconds the transfer was interrupted as the card disconnected itself from the computer. When i tried to connectthe card it found errors and asked me to do a disk check. I then reallized I could only transfer one single file at at a time but even then the card was unstable and randomly disconnects. When i tried to remove the files that were corrupted due to the interruption i found that the delete option was no longer avaliable in the right click menu.

today i updated a friends Hero 3 and everything was working fine. i went to update my hero 3 and when the update started installing on the camera i noticed that the LCD touch screen on the back was wigging out. it had a lot of different colors and lines so i removed the screen and went to removed the battery. after removing the battery i went to turn my Hero 3 back on after putting the battery back in and no my Hero 3 doesnt do anything. no lights no sounds. NO NOTHING. im wondering if when the firmware was installing and i removed the battery it locked the gopro. if anyone knows of anyways to fix this please let me know.

This firmware is strictly for the Hero2.
The hero3 black max resolution video is pretty big for playback on just any computer.
You need a serious machine with impressive specs to playback the max res. hero3 videos.

For the HERO3+ series (and earlier) you could go through the process on the GoPro website here. If you need the latest firmware then great, go through the process and kill two birds with one stone. But chances are you have the latest as the HERO3+ series has not had a firmware update since late 2014 (at the time of writing - July 2016) since they have the shiny Hero4 camera to focus on (and no doubt a HERO5 at some point).

I was powering both the radio and my drone with the same battery and so PX4 was sending messages via Mavlink to the air unit and stopping the firmware update. It was literally disconnecting and reconnecting the USB in windows when this happened. When I disconnected the battery from the drone- the update successfully completed.

The google drive link with the HM30 Air Unit firmware (the one mentioned in this thread and in the HM30 manual) is not valid any more. Could you please tell me where the firmware can be found? I mean the HM30 ground and air unit.

Another reason many people reset their WiFi completely is some bug in a software or firmware update. Resetting Wi-Fi passwords in GoPro HERO 3 is easy. However, if this is your first attempt to pair the GoPro App with your camera, you should use the default passcode, which is goprohero.

I have a GoPro hero 8 that I was able to connect to my pc with wifi but When I try to launch the stream via Crome it returns with a 500 internal server error.
Please help I need to have a working webcam and I cannot wait until GoPro releases the windows patch.
