this occured when i flew in from boston, nathan wa lving in chicago and
zachary drove down from wi. i have no idea what the impetus was, but
we hung out at nates for the weekend. at the time he was dating liz,
his last girlfriend before coming out. i recall getting really drunk
and walking over to her house one night and back. we walked along the
beach and it was winter, chilly, but not terrible. we walked through
st.paul univ, a school i rejected for my masters. we went to some jazz
club one night and sat at the bar and got drunk. there was a no
smioking policy at the behest of the performers. afterward we took the
train home,, waiting for that train was fucking cold. i actually
recall a drunk dialing of my ex-wife andrea, oddly enough it was the
last time i ever called that number, i think i tried like a year later
and she had gotten rid of that phone. and she is no longer in my phone
book, considering i still have the number of a guy in new orleans who
wanted to buy a painting that mark gleicher and i were working on, but
he didn't once it was completed, it is remarkable that i have gotten
rid of the ex-wife's #. i believe the weekend kicked off at a mexican
resturant where we drank a fair amount and listened to some musician.
i recall disliking him and debating with zachary who thought he was
entertaining (maybe talented, i'm not sure, ask zach). there was also
the night that zach and i, without nate (no idea why) went out to
dinner at some italian restuant and he was talking about what a drag it
was to be living in eau claire and that he really wanted to move to
chicago, i recall thinking he should just do it, and i said so. but
nothing came of it, he just bought a house in eau claire and nate is
back in the southwest and i in alaska (on my way to some city, nyc,
bos, san diego??-we'll see where the phd opportunity and money is) i
remember that conversation with zachary and looking back i am struck by
how real and honest it was, there are so few moments in life that are
that authentic, it was great, i will remember the impression of it for
a long time (probably untill my death erases it).
that was the time that i was gone and christine (my then girlfriend,
now fiance) called to report that my apartment had flooded. she and
tom, my landlord cleaned it up before i returned and he reimbursed me
for stuff that i lost in the flooding, he really was the best landlord
and one of the greatest people i have ever encountered. that means
that this weekend occured while i was working as an assistant manager
at eastern mountain sports and christine was working at aventis
pharmacuticals,
i think we had a several bottles and two cases of beer that nate had
picked up at costco, with father harris??
