it was a loop, in the praire land of wi, we drove up from chicago, i
was again staying with nate and we stopped off at my parents for
several days on either side of backpacking. nate had brought along the
mp3 recorder he had just received as a gift, we never made a recording.
when we arrived, we met at a gas station off the side off the highway
where itookl pictures of giant fiberglass animals, such as the orange
moose, the mouse with chees and the deer jumping over nothing, they
were quite impressive and larger than life. ah yes, nate had just
aquirred a digital camera, so pictures were happening. i think we
stopped off to get a pack o p'funks and petro, oh yeah and we went into
the hotel to make a copy of some documennt or another and we got coffee
at the stand accross the way. the hotel had big plush leather chairs
and the woman wanted to make certain that we knew we had to pay 25
cents for the copy. so we drove and drove up to the ttrail head,
parked, got out of the car and then there was the quiet of the woods.
wel actually we stopped off at the ranger station first and checked it
all out, tryed to secure the proper paper work for bumbeling around in
the woods (gotta love the dnr fold, they're good shit) and looked at
the overstuffed game and fowl they had mounted on the wall. i was not
into this part, and i was probably causing trouble. so there we are,
in the parking lot, out of the car and it is quiet and we are packing
shit up. nate has a huge bag, zach has a pretty big bag and a lot of
heavy shit and i know this is not gonna be good for them, but "you pack
your insecurities". hindsight i should have brought a bigger bag and
carried more shit. so we bumbel around, repacking, consolidating and
me saying, you really don't need that. i like go light, go fast, it's
easier. so we set off, it is a trail through the woods and after some
time it starts to mist, then it picks up and then it begins to rain a
little, we came up on a shelter, so we duck in, it passes and we
continue on. eventually we reach the outer loop of the trail and we
veer off the path and up a hill, there were some guys staking out the
valley, it was a birch forest, a nice change after the hardwoods we had
been in and it was gorgeous in the way that birch always are. we
scramble up a hill and pitch the tent, then rtealize we forgot more
water!! at this point in my life i was in good shape, so i am happy to
hike back to the car and back as it will be a nice trot. so i do and
it was one of those great times when my body just goes, i think i was
running part sof the way, just coasting, having walked for some time i
was already warmed up and this was flat ground, i was cruisin, so i
fill up the water containers, grab something from the car,
inadvertentluy leaving the door unlocked, sorry nate and bust back out.
we make up some grub, get drunk and zach-o gets the bivy sack!! forgot
about that, yeah nate and i get the tent, and zack in the bivy. i
recall a largish fire and zachary making some grub. now there must
have been another night, because i recolect the other camping spot and
the talk about politics and the tempers got heated, but we drank it
away and fun was had by all.

at the jette house in Tucson after the trip, but only one before. and
wanted to remind chris aobut the blackout in grafton and walking aound
town with no power, and hitting the pitch black bar!

What "jette house in Tucson". I believe the house was in Grafton, but I
may be mistaken.

Sorry for the lack of input. The holidays and life sometimes keep me busy. I became an uncle the other day and that has been very exciting. Later...Z
