The Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI) Law Clinic wishes to fill up to two vacancies for candidate attorneys (CAs).
This vacancies will arise on or after 1 January 2018. 

SERI is one of South Africa’s leading human rights organisations, and is internationally recognised for its award-winning work. SERI has a first-rate research and advocacy team, which provides research, community-based public education, media advocacy and associated services to a wide range of communities and social movements. SERI research informs government policy, mobilises community-based action, and promotes public awareness of the need to protect and advance socio-economic rights.

SERI seeks to appoint Candidate Attorneys, based in South Africa.

This vacancies will arise on or after 1 January 2018.

SERI is authorised by the Law Society of the Northern Provinces to accept and train CAs. 

CAs are recruited for a fixed-term of two years, leading to qualification and admission as an Attorney. 

Salary: R175 000 per annum.

Requirements:

  • LLB Degree
  • Interest in and, some prior engagement with, human rights law or litigation
  • Interest in, and experience of, research and publication.
  • Fluency in any of South Africa’s indigenous languages

Candidate Attorney Vacancy 

 

The Centre Child Law is a leading litigation centre in the University of Pretoria which undertakes research, strategiclitigation, and public interest advocacy.  The Centre is looking for a candidate attorney to join our team in 2018 to work across the range of programmes which include Child Protection, Education, Child Justice and Constitutional Law in respect of children

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 

• An LLB or equivalent degree
• A demonstrated interest in human rights work and social justice
• A strong interest in research as a component of lawyering
• Good oral and written communication skills in English
• Proficiency in other South African languages will be an advantage
• Proficiency in MS Office

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assisting in strategic litigation cases
• Research in support of advocacy and litigation activities
• Conducting field research in communities
• Drafting pleadings and legal opinions
• Assisting in the drafting of research reports
• Providing input into draft policies and legislation
• Preparing documents for, and appearing in, court 
• Liaison with clients, counsel and partners
• Representing the Centre for Child Law in civil society forums
