Dear International Office,
It is my pleasure to inform you about the 2014 International Summer
School programme at the University of Exeter. Full details are available
online [4] as well as in our brochure [5].
The programme takes place between 5 and 26 July and includes 8 courses
from a range of subject areas:
ENGLISH: Shakespeare and His World [6]
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES: Global Climate Change: Environment, Technology
and Society [7]
HISTORY: Britain and the Making of the Modern World [8], King Arthur:
Investigating the Myth and the Legend [9]
LAW: English Law and the Era of Globalisation [10]
MANAGEMENT: Global Enterprise [11]
POLITICS AND SECURITY STUDIES: International Relations: Security,
Conflict and Peace [12]
SPORTS AND HEALTH SCIENCES: Preventative Medicine: Exercise and the
Environment [13]
The programme is accredited at 15 Exeter credits and 7.5 ECTS - the
equivalent to our semester modules, is taught by Exeter faculty and
assessed to the same standards as our 2nd or final year UG degree
modules. Our teaching has the same ethos as our undergraduate programmes
and we encourage active learning through participation, take an
inter-disciplinary approach to each subject and limit class sizes.
Students have full access to our facilities and are expected to
undertake 2 hours of guided independent study or group work each day to
keep up with the pace of the course.
During their time in Exeter students stay in Holland Hall [14] on the
main campus take part in a social programme which involves a number of
events in Exeter and daytrips to some iconic destinations in the
South-West of England. The programme also features a 3 day orientation
weekend in London on arrival so that students can acclimatise to the UK
and get to know their fellow students before travelling to Exeter for
the academic programme.
The programme fee includes tuition, accommodation plus breakfast and
dinner, social events and day trips at weekends and is £2,445. The
closing date for applications is 30 April 2014 and we also offer a
number of partial scholarships awarded on academic merit.

materials if required or answer any questions you have about the
programme.
