Hi, I've been watching this for a while, and I can finally start buying some things, but I have some questions before:

  • First question, and the reason I posted a new thread instead of an answer, is, does the monitor support DDC for sending commands, etc? I think it would be pretty great to control monitor resolution, brightness, etc without needing the buttons, only using ddcutil(linux) for example. If it is not yet available, can it be implemented without changing the FPGA firmware? If the code that needs change is available as open source, I would have interest in trying to implement it.
  • Second, I see a lot of talk in this group about supported panels, requests for panels, there is an item on the shop for other panels, etc. Is there some reference where we can check which panels are supported/supported with tweaking/impossible, etc?
  • Third question(s) is very specific to me, but as I live in Brazil, and I don't see full monitors in the shop anymore, I am planning to buy the samsung U28E590D, use it until I save enough money in 1/2 months and then buy the x28 kit to mod it. Is this a recommended course of action? I've seen some talk here about the panel in this model requiring a FPGA update, so wanted to make sure everything is ok. If it is ok, are there pictures for the modding process somewhere?
Thanks for your attention, and sorry if any of this is repeated, I tried searching before, but still had doubts.

DDC is not supported.

Panel list:
M238DCJ-E50 23.8” 9.5ms AAS WILL NOT WORK
M280DGJ-L30 28” 1ms TN FULLY SUPPORTED
M315DJJ-K30 31.5” 9.5ms MVA WILL NOT WORK
V390DK1-LS1 39” 6.5ms MVA FULLY SUPPORTED
V400DK* 40” 9.5ms MVA FULLY SUPPORTED
V420DK* 42” 9.5ms MVA FULLY SUPPORTED
V500DK2 50” 6.5ms MVA UNTESTED
V580DK2 58” 6.5ms MVA UNTESTED

For a tight budget, recommend finding something with broken electronics but a good panel.  Don't get something with a cracked panel, but do find something that has an electrical problem, best would be "turns off after a few seconds" or "randomly blinks off".  Avoid things like "has lines" or "cracked".  In the US, you can find models like this for $30~70.  Any 28" 3840*2160 panel will work, but 27" will not.

Thanks for the reply, really appreciate it.
I bought a new LU28E590DS, but will try to find a broken one as you said to avoid opening up this one.
Would love to look into ddc when I buy my kit, hope the I2C line is available to the mcu, then I can try to implement something.

Its DP so the transaction would go over AUX, but the DP RX chip doesnt forward it anywhere that I know of, so DDC transactions die there without an ack.
