What might be considered the oldest "autograph" is a Sumerian clay table from about 3100 BC which includes the name of the scribe Gar.Ama. No ancient written autographs have been found, and the earliest one known for a major historical figure is that of El Cid from 1098.[4]

"Autograph" can refer to a document transcribed entirely in the handwriting of its author, as opposed to a typeset document or one written by an amanuensis or a copyist. This meaning overlaps that of "holograph".[3]

Autograph collecting is the hobby of collecting autographs of famous persons.[1] Some of the most popular categories of autograph subjects are presidents, military soldiers, athletes, movie stars, artists, social and religious leaders, scientists, astronauts, and authors.[5]

Thank you for your interest in obtaining autographed items from Auburn head coaches. We receive numerous requests throughout the year. I like to sign my books on the title page, which is where most books are autographed, though you can also sign the inside cover. In some cases, you may want to sign the front cover, though this is rare and would probably only be appropriate for a coffee table book or something that will be on display.

There are three separate categories for autographs at Anime Expo 2024! All autograph sessions are pre-ticketed. Please note where to acquire tickets for each session. For any paid autographs, you will purchase them directly at the table. Payment is not accepted at the Autographs Ticketing Booth at Gilbert Lindsay Plaza.

Two of the autographs books were created by a certain Jacob A. Zoll from 1881-1886, and the other from 1885-1897. The first book captured my attention because even though it dates back to the 1880s, it is full of colorful paper stickers in the form of spring flowers, cherubs, and wildlife. It reminded me of my own adolescent obsession with Lisa Frank stickers.

It was not immediately clear to me who Zoll was, or what (if any) relationship he had with Indiana University. As an art historian-turned-training-archivist, I decided to beef up my genealogy research skills to find this out. I turned to the Ancestry Library Edition, a resource accessible through the IU Libraries, and discovered through U.S. census records that Zoll was born in Ohio in 1861. By 1880, he lived in Belle Flower, Illinois with his family. When he was older, Zoll moved to Urbana, Illinois, became a carpenter, and lived with his wife and two stepsons.

Combing through genealogy and I.U.-specific records to map these autograph books was a real archival journey for me. The autograph books provide an intimate, and even touching glimpse into historical family dynamics. To view these special objects yourself, contact the Indiana University Archives.

The Lummis Autograph Collection contains 1,700 autographs collected by Charles Fletcher Lummis when he was the Los Angeles City Librarian (1905- 1910). Lummis sent a specially-designed piece of library stationery to all the leading men (and some) women of the day, asking them to "improve" the page with a saying, drawing, or other inspiring example of their work. If you'd like to view any of these autographs, please make a Rare Books Room appointment.

Through its Central Library and 72 branches, the Los Angeles Public Library provides free and easy access to information, ideas, books and technology that enrich, educate and empower every individual in our city's diverse communities.

CHAPEL HILL - University of North Carolina student-athletes and coaches are pleased to sign autographs for Carolina fans of all ages. However, due to several factors, including NCAA legislation and compliance issues, the increased unauthorized use and sale of autographed items, and the volume of requests, the athletic department has followed suit of many other universities across the country and instituted guidelines for obtaining autographs.

The University of Alabama Department of Intercollegiate Athletics receives numerous requests for charitable donations and autographs each year. While we would like to fill each request, the high demand coupled with NCAA regulations, prevents that from occurring. In an effort to support as many philanthropic endeavors as possible, the guidelines below have been implemented. Please note that submission of a request, even if all guidelines are met, does not guarantee the request will be filled.
