moomoo :)

Those of you who're running the currrent Q3 point release (v1.15c) will
know that its been impossible to connect to Zip's q3 server. Well this is
no longer. :)

The server at quake3.zipworld.com.au:27960 is now running with sv_pure 0,
which means you can connect to it with the point release installed even
though the server itself is still running original retail release (v1.11).

However in my testing I've found some other strange problem with the
server where connection attempts get stuck at the "Awaiting CD Key
Authorization" phase .. but if I connect to another server which works,
then try and connect to Zip it works! So if you're getting stuck at that
CD Key auth screen, try this and see if it fixes it for you.

Also if anyone knows of any websites with good q3 admin guides please send
them over.. most of the sites I've seen so far just have the same old
crud recycled - and its largely stuff that other admins have discovered.
It'd be nice if iD actually documented some of the console vars &
commands. ;)

Here's a link which I found which might help with the above problem:

Hey Mr Magoo :)

I've tried the hosts thing and I don't think thats the problem. For those
who're interested it involves adding an entry to your "hosts" file (found
in your Windows directory, default is c:\windows) which contains the IP
address of authorize.quake3arena.com (192.246.40.56). This helps if your
DNS setup is broken and you're unable to resolve that hostname and hence
unable to get authorization. However in my case I know I can resolve the
hostname, and am able to get authorized on other servers .. just not
Zip's! :)

Other threads on that linux.com page suggest I'm not the only one
experiencing this .. but no one seems to have a solution. :(

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Does anyone know have a direct link into q3admin.com?
http://www.q3admin.com just returns a logo image which is pretty useless.

Goo, I found this at planetquake:
http://www.planetquake.com/beryllium

There's a new server-side Q3A mod for you server admins out there -- Beryllium!
This new mod joins the PQ family today, so step on over and take a look.
Beryllium allows server admins to configure their servers in tons of ways, so if
you've got a Q3A server running and want to have total control over it, then
grab this mod today!

Maybe it will help?
