Solar Power the album will be released on August 20 and features 12 tracks, all with titles that complement the happy, laid-back vibe of the first single: “California,” “Mood Ring,” and “Oceanic Feeling,” for example. The musician has clearly found peace and inspiration from nature, notably the beach, and that earthy, spiritual feeling will likely flow through most of Solar Power. “The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” Lorde said in a letter to fans. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”

The album won’t be released on a traditional CD, either. Lorde is doing things her way and releasing a “music box” containing handwritten notes from Lorde, exclusive photos and video content, and a download card where fans can download the album, bonus tracks, and more exclusive content. “I decided early on in the process of making this album that I also wanted to create an environmentally kind, forward-thinking alternative to the CD,” Lorde shared. “I wanted this Music Box product to be similar in size, shape and price to a CD, to live alongside it in a retail environment, but be something which stands apart and that’s committed to the evolving nature of a modern album.”

She’ll also be hitting the road for a world tour in support of the album, starting next year. “Turning it on in a new kind of bright in 2022,” reads her official website. The tour kicks off in New Zealand on February 26 and concludes in Berlin, Germany on June 23; the first American stop is April 3 in Nashville, Tennessee.
