CHICAGO, April 3 (UPI) - A task force formed to look into mounting a
bid for the 2008 Summer Olympics for Chicago will reportedly call the
effort off (Thursday). The Chicago Tribune reports the committee will
give the idea the thumbs-down partly because the effort never got the
backing of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, who objected to demands by the
International Olympic Committee that taxpayers be on the hook for many
of the expenses.
