Accident at sea aboard U.S. carrier

SYDNEY, April 3 (UPI) - An accident aboard the U.S. aircraft carrier
USS Independence (Wednesday) has seriously injured a sailor and forced a
pilot to crash-land his damaged plane in Australia. The seaman suffered
multiple arm and leg fractures when he was struck by pieces of a jet
fighter's landing gear, which peeled apart during takeoff. The pilot of
the Hornet F-18 was not injured.
