Order status update frequency

New to both zipline and python and it has been an interesting and challenging experience learning the ropes. I was wondering if it's possible to check order status every second using the time module. This would be placed under handle_data which runs every minute, but the check_order_status function would run for 60 consecutive seconds (or maybe 50 as I vaguely remember some time out rule for handle_data). Any advice would be appreciated.
