zipkin-collector for kafka

Hi All,

We are planning to use zipkin.sender.type=kafka 

We are planning to use a dedicated Kafka environment for hosting the tracing information. But we want to create a new topic for each application to send out the traces. Also the Kafka servers are mTLS protected and we provide access to topics project wise meaning a project can only publish to a specific topic based on their certificate.

We want to make changes to the existing https://github.com/openzipkin/zipkin/tree/master/zipkin-collector/kafka . 

few questions :

1. Whatever i am planning to implement , is it achievable ?

2. Also once i make changes to zipkin-collector/kafka ,what additional changes do i have to make on my application side to push the tracing info to zipkin.  

Note: I am pretty new to zipkin world, hence please excuse me if anything i mentioned above does not seem correct.

hi there. and good luck on your setup

as both default sender and server can take arbitrary Kafka properties can you try this first? customization is best a last resort
