I am downloading release version of Mac OS X Lion to try Zipeg on it. May need few tune ups and fixes - remains to be seen. If you are already tried to run Zipeg on Lion please share your experience  here. Thanks.

Doesn't work - it prompts you to install a java runtime and claims that an internet connection is not available.

Been running zipeg on Lion, and it works well... not seen any quirks...

Upgraded from 10.6->10.7 i.e. not a fresh install (still requires fetch of jre over the internet)

Eagerly looking forward to a Lion compatible version. Want to be able to create secure (AES 256) capable zip files on Mac, the way I do with WinZip on Windows. Thanks

WinZip is available for Mac (not free).
You can try EZ 7 zip too.

Doesn't work to extract SystemCheck_deDE.zip from blizzard.com (System check tool for beta releases) in Mac OS X Lion. With Archive Utility.app there is no problem to extract. Please release a fully compatible Lion version of Zipeg.

Try to disable automatic updates in Zipeg Preferences and see if it helps.

I installed Zipeg and used it to open a password protected file on my imac running lion with absolutely no problem.  It was from Chase bank and all the suggestions they gave me were for lousy PC, so I emailed them back telling them they should include a link to your site with their password protected zip files.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

I installed Zipeg on Lion and it seems to work except for the file associations.  Zipeg thinks that it is the default viewer for various file types including .zip, but when I look at .zip files in Finder, it says Archive Utility is the default app.  So Zipeg isn't changing the system file associations for some reason.

Try new 2.9.4 version at
I've tested it on fresh Lion install and it seems to associate
itself with .zip and other files just fine.

To simulate fresh install you may delete file ($USER is your username)
/Users/$USER/Library/Preferences/com.zipeg/zipeg.properties
aka
~/Library/Preferences/com.zipeg/zipeg.properties
reachable from Finder via
Finder: Command+Shift+G
~/Library/Preferences/com.zipeg/

Zipeg Support why would you recommend someone to download Java SE 1.6.0?
This version has been deprecated by Oracle / Sun due to having vulnerabilities.

People should stop using Zipeg if it cannot be updated to work with Java 8.

The 2014 version is available:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
It is not true that it is "having vulnerabilities". Every version of Java has bugs and next dot dot release fixes them (and brings new).

As of "why"? - because Zipeg is freeware and I maintain it in my spare time. I have full-time job too.
1.6 is last 32-bit java. Zipeg uses p7zip library that in 2006 (this is when originally Zipeg was released) was 32bits only.

I am working on 64bits port for Mac which will let people use recent version of JVM 7.0 and 8.0

Should be interesting to hear of the update please do share back news when it is updated, we are using Unarchiever from App Store at the moment but Zipeg looks much better.
