Hi ZimPycon members,
Recently I was asked the question. “What are the fastest ways to build an MVP”? I thought i would share with you guys perhaps the information may be useful and educational. Do post your comments lets have a discussion.

Minimum Viable Product is a term that rarely exists in Zimbabwean IT
Departments. They would rather buy a complete working products even if
it has some unnecessary features. My ISP should have gone that route
instead of setting up a user portal that fails to open even on their
own service.
Unfortunately it greatly limits their ability to adapt to changes on
the local market.

I guess it's more of an education thing that management/people need to get on board with. It will probably take some time for Zimbabwean companies/startups to reach that thought process of adapting to change dynamically and been agile, but I totally understand that such things are always meet with crazy amounts of resistance. This is not isolated to Zimbabwe only. There's always this notion that bigger bloated is always better, but in hindsight it's the latter.

Education wise, I don't think its the issue. These days our
universities and colleges are catching up with current technology.
Internet access has made sure of this to a certain extent. You can see
this especially at the rate at which guys are creating android apps.
What is lacking is the industry to take up this new talent. Building
of MVP solutions usually means lots of experimentation. This is
ultimately a cost thing. Zimbabwean companies are usually struggling
with low revenue inflows. So for them it doesn't make sense to have a
programmer who may be sitting around doing what could be termed as
doing nothing. They are yet to get it into their heads that having an
inhouse developer can save you costs in the long run and make you
flexible to new opportunities in the future. To them it makes sense in
buying complete packages. They have invested a lot in current
technologies, and are only forced to shift because of change in
techonolgy E.G. Microsoft suddenly dropping support for XP. And oh how
they love their licenced software.

I think it will take long for Zimbabweans to adjust to new technology. l think our government must be on the lead. The people and companies are surprised on how Econet is sustaining or adapting to new technologies , they don't know that its because of inhouse developers and programmers.
