Dear Vulindlela,

Earlier this month we launched the Bond International Development Awards and I'd like to tell you more about how your organisation can get involved in this exciting new initiative.

Celebrating inspiring development
Currently, much of the outstanding work of the development sector goes unrecognised and unnoticed. We hope to change that by highlighting and publicly acknowledging the hidden stories behind Bond members’ work – inspiring stories that illustrate their contribution to positive change and improved practice in pursuit of sustainability and development.  Inspiration is the hallmark of the Bond awards.  These inspiring project stories will paint a rich picture of the variety and scope of development practice.  To our knowledge, there are no other awards in the sector that fulfil this aim.

2014: The Positive Collaboration Award
In this inaugural year, the awards will focus on positive collaborations.  Increasingly NGOs are working with new and diverse partners - agencies, institutions, networks and others - across multiple sectors and disciplines. The awards provide an excellent opportunity to share stories of successful, even unexpected, collaborations, highlighting what is possible and what is working.  Your entry will be in the form of a 3 minute film which will bring to life the inspiring nature of your project and the positive collaboration involved. The full judging criteria and rules of entry are on the website.

The deadline for entries is 4 April 2014 and the winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony in May 2014.  Afterwards, the films will be available online to encourage further discussion and engagement.

Please share details of the awards with your colleagues and peers as we would like to receive as many entries as possible.

Best wishes,

Mike Wright

Hi

I think we should enter! It sounds like our partnership with Trinity could be the sort of thing they are looking for.
The deadline is in April- as we mentioned the other day, the next visit to Zim would ideally be in March. If we can do that, it would give us a chance to get some footage. I’m not 100% confident in trusting them to provide what we need.

Mike

Hi all,
Sorry for the lack of comms. But just to let you know that I am in Zim and happy to help as far as I can from here.
Congratulations to all involved with the procurement of funding! SO exciting.

Hi all,

Vuli has booked a room at Unity tomorrow. Is anyone going to be coming
along? I will probably come into Ebor Court in the morning as there's a
few things here I'm trying to get up and running, but I'll come up to
Unity for 12ish if people will be there.

Let us know.

Thanks
Stuart.

No worries Mike. Let me know if you get chance to do the HR stuff.

Flo - if you're free tomorrow, maybe it'd make more sense for you to
come down to Ebor Court (just off Wellington Road), as there are
probably more things we can get done here than we can at Unity.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

Just been looking into the Bond Comp, and I don't think we can enter, sadly. The deadline is 4th April - I know we had discussed a site visit in March, but looking at the DfID reporting schedule, a visit during the first few weeks of April makes a lot more sense. On a more positive note, I spoke to a friend of mine who is a video jounalist; he's really keen to visit Zimbabwe, so might come over in April and put together some really good videos for us. I'll look into that more in the new year.

Jess - thanks for the offer of help, I'll look into ways you could help out over there. Are you in Harare? Hope all is well!

Cheers
Stuart.

Hi guys,

Wondering who is about this Wednesday? If there are a few of us we'll
need to book a room at Unity.

Mike - how are you getting on with the HR Policies? Also, please could
you email me the login info for the contact@zim....org.uk email account.

Cheers
Stuart.

Hi guys,

Details for next volunteers meeting:

Date: Wednesday 22nd Jan
Time: 17:30 - 18:30
Venue: Ebor Court

Please note the change of venue from Unity to Ebor Court. As all our files etc are here and there are no limits on the times we can be in the building, I think it makes sense to have our meetings here from now on. If you drive, parking isn't usually a problem after 5pm, and it's right by the station/bus stops for those on public transport. There's a code on the door, so you'll need to give me a ring when you arrive so I can let you in (07988308915).

Please let me know ASAP if you can attend next week, and if there's anything you'd like on the agenda. I'll type that up and send it round on Mon/Tues next week.

Cheers
Stuart.

Hi Stu,

Thanks for the update – I will be there next Wednesday. In the mean-time I’ve just got to figure out how to get home!

See you then

Hi all,

Here's the agenda for tomorrow.

Flo, if you're free to come in earlier that would be great. We have a new volunteer starting tomorrow too. Just give me a call/text to let me know if you're coming in.

See you tomorrow.

Stuart.

Hello all,

This year we are planning to expand ZET’s work and support thousands more of Zimbabwe’s most vulnerable children. Having fully funded our flagship project in Bulawayo for the next three years and found funding to employ a part-time member of staff, we are now in a position to take on new projects. Initiatives we would like to support include: nutritional gardens for school; girls empowerment; and IT for Zimbabwe Schools.

With over 25 years experience working in the field of educational development, ZET is perfectly placed to support local grass roots organizations in implementing these types of initiatives. The small size of the trust not only ensures very low overheads, but also enables us to be more flexible in our work; this is vital in order to ensure projects can react to unpredictable changes in the political, economic, and social landscape in Zimbabwe.

The 5x5 Challenge:
To help fund this new work, we are asking every supporter of ZET to find 5 people who are willing to donate £5 per month to ZET. Monthly donations are the most effective and sustainable way to fund our work, and if the donors are eligible for Gift Aid we will also receive 25% of the value of their donation from HMRC each month!

By completing the 5x5 Challenge, you will raise at least £300 per year for ZET (excluding Gift Aid). To put that in context, £300 would pay for any of the following:
•  the rent of ZET’s office space for an entire year;
•  one month’s salary for a project assistant in Zimbabwe;
•  30 community sensitization meetings;
•  the acquisition of birth certificates for 20 orphans.

By spending a small amount of time recruiting just 5 monthly donors, you have the potential to make a huge difference to the lives of children in Zimbabwe. Our current work is only a start; by engaging with other issues and taking on new projects we can do so much more to support Zimbabwean communities in their efforts to keep children in school and out of poverty.

Monthly donor forms can be downloaded from: www.zimbabweeducationaltrust.org.uk/donate - or if you would prefer to receive forms via post or email, or for any other information, please contact me at: stu...@zimbabweeducationaltrust.org.uk (0113 3731761 / 07988308915).

We thank you sincerely for your support in helping us work towards this goal. For volunteers old and new, this is a great way to contribute to the work of ZET!!

Many thanks,
Stuart.
