UI Postgraduate school Admissions

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

(a) The basic qualification for admission to all Postgraduate courses
and programmes is a first degree of the University of Ibadan or of
other recognised Institutions in the relevant discipline. In addition
to individual Departmental requirements, applicants must satisfy the
O’ level First degree matriculation requirements of the University of
Ibadan i.e. five O’ level credit passes at not more than two sittings
including English Language and relevant subjects for ALL disciplines,
and Mathematics for ALL Science-based disciplines, Educational
Management and Economics; and at least a pass in Mathematics for other
Social Science courses. Candidates with NCE qualification must have
Credit passes in WASCE or Credit/Merit passes in TC II (obtained
between 1967 and 1981) in English Language and four other relevant
matriculation subjects.

(b) Candidates who already possess acceptable Postgraduate degrees, in
addition to a good First degree, may be considered for admission to
the M.Phil and Ph.D programmes.

IMPORTANT NOTICE

The minimum duration for any Master programme in the University of
Ibadan is three semesters of Full-Time Study.

In addition to individual departmental course requirements, candidates
should please note that in accordance with the University’s
regulation, they must satisfy the O’ level First degree matriculation
requirements of the University of Ibadan i.e. five O’ level Credit
passes at not more than two sittings including English Language for
ALL disciplines and Mathematics for ALL Science-based disciplines,
Economics and Educational Management.

Candidates with NCE must have Credit passes in WASCE or Merit/Credit
passes in Teacher Certificate Grade II (obtained between 1967 and
1981) in English Language and four other relevant matriculation
subjects.

With the exception of programmes that are both academic and
professional (e.g. L.L.M., M.P.H., M.Inf. Sc., M.I.L.S., M.A.R.M.,
M.P.C.S.) only candidates with an academic Master’s Degree may be
considered for higher academic programmes such as M.Phil.and Ph.D.

The stated admission requirements are just minimum requirements. Final
admission will depend on available spaces and level of competition.

the “Admission Guide’, which is available on our website.

4. STEPS IN APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1. Candidates are to download the PG School Guide to Admissions
(2010/2011} and read through carefully to determine availability of
the programme which they intend to apply for and also to ascertain
that they meet the admission criteria/requirements.

2. Having satisfied step 1, each candidate would be requested to
supply Names, e-mail Address, phone number and country code. A mail
containing an application number and a password would be sent to the
supplied e-mail address and the candidate would be requested to
retrieve and supply these to confirm the e-mail Address. (It is very
important that each candidate supplies a valid and accessible e-mail
address)

3. Each candidate will then be required to select the programme he/she
intends to apply for. An Invoice will be issued to the candidate which
is to be printed out and used for payment at any branch of the
following banks: First Bank Plc., Unibadan Branch(A/C.No.
1232040000198), Afribank Plc., Unibadan Branch (A/C. No.
0410584671622), Intercontinental Bank Plc. Bodija Branch, Ibadan (A/C.
No. 0065001000070735), UBA, Iwo Road, Ibadan Branch (A/C. No.
03170110000720 and Wema Bank, Bodija, Ibadan (A/C. No. 0681083568512).

4. Each candidate will be notified of the confirmation of payment via
e-mail and SMS after which, the candidate returns to continue the
application procedure. After the completion of all data entry, the
candidate will be asked to review data entered and make necessary
adjustment(s) to any of the data fields except the selected programme,
e-mail and phone number. All through, the candidate could chat
directly with the Desk Officer of the PG School if any difficulty or
confusion arises.

5. Having satisfied Step 4, each candidate is expected to print out
the following:
(i) 1 copy of Application Form
(ii) 3 copies of Referee forms
(iii) 1 copy of Eligibility form, and
(iv) 1 copy of Transcript label
(v) 1 copy of M.Phil or Ph.D proposal (for Ph.D candidate)

The completed and signed Application and Eligibility forms must be
sent, along with photocopies of all documents requested, to The Deputy
Registrar/Secretary Postgraduate School, University of Ibadan by
surface mail in secured A4 sized envelope. A copy of the referee forms
must be sent to each of the 3 nominated referees who should be asked
to return them, on completion, directly to The Deputy Registrar/
Secretary Postgraduate School, University of Ibadan. The Transcript
Label must be attached to each request for transcript (UI graduates
are exempted from presenting their transcripts).

6. Each candidate shall receive e-mail and/or text messages from the
PG School on their admission status. The candidates are free to log on
to the PG School website to check on their admission status and if
need be, chat with the Desk Officer.

FOREIGNERS WITHIN AND OUTSIDE NIGERIA

Non-Nigerian applicants within and outside Nigeria should follow steps
1 to 3 above to obtain invoice and then send bank draft/bank cheque of
US$100.00 made payable to the Postgraduate School, University of
Ibadan. The name, address and Unique Application Number of the
applicant should be clearly written at the back of the bank draft/bank
cheque. Personal cheques and Postal or Money Orders ARE NOT
ACCEPTABLE. On receipt of the cheque, the PG School shall instruct the
candidate via e-mail to proceed with the Registration Steps 4 to 6.

CLOSING DATE AND SUBMISSION OF COMPLETED APPLICATION FORMS

Application forms, duly completed and returned to the Postgraduate
School, University of Ibadan, not later than eight weeks from the date
of this advertisement will be considered for admission in the
2010/2011 Session. Applicants are to note that this deadline will not
be extended. Application forms could be sent by courier or personally
delivered to the Postgraduate School, University of Ibadan. All mail
is to be addressed to: The Secretary, Postgraduate School, University
of Ibadan, Nigeria.. Applicants shall be informed of the progress of
their applications electronically through their e-mail addresses.
