I am a student and new to inventor and have used it on a previous school computer, however it will not install on a new computer i just purchased. Download and install per:
1. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent (link is in my signature) and follow the download links to your product.
2. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
3. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
4. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
5. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
6. Follow the installation steps for your product

Good luck on your installation.
I'm trying to install inventor 2017 and on the installation screen it shows autodesk inventor 17 and the revit failed. How do I fix this? I went thru your link to download with browser. Thanks for the help.
So I would recommend uninstalling all version of the Visual C++ Redistributable on your machine (Windows Control Panel/Add&Remove programs) and then restart the installation again so that it can put them back on. Most likely you have a newer version than the installer needs. Report back on your progress.

However if the installation does fail using this method, please post your installation log file here so we can review it. Posting info: Sometimes installation log files contain personal information such as your serial #. Prior to posting your log file please make sure to remove such info.
Although you were probably unaware of this, but when you post or share stuff here, please make sure it doesn't include your personal information such as your serial #. This is a world wide user forum and that type of info should not be included in your posting. Granted the installation log file helped us to determine your root cause (but it did contain your serial #)... So in the future remove or blur it out before posting. I will have the moderator remove it in order to protect your information.
I have the issue with windows C++ redistributable failing to install, I tried uninstalling it through control panel and that fixed nothing. I also tried during it through install agent and the initzialing bar doesn't move then it just closes.
Without your installation log file we can only speculate what the issue at this point. Posting info: Sometimes installation log files contain personal information such as your serial #. Prior to posting your log file please make sure to remove such info.
1. Clean out your personal temp (%temp%) folder. Set Windows UAC to never notify, full admin rights and if possible disable your Anti-Virus/Malware scanning utilities. Also the download should occur over a hard wired connection to the Internet and not over WIFI.
3. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.

7. Follow the installation steps for your product. At this point you could cancel the installation or create a deployment.

Mark, your suggestions sadly did not help in my case. I've even gone so far as to try it on a completely fresh Win10 install with UAC and Windows Defender disabled - still the genskf.exe window appears and progress bars stop filling.
I have 3-year student license for Inventor prof. 2017, but I am unable to use it since it won't open properly. The splash screen loads halfway, then closes without any error messages. I had inventor working on this computer before I had some repairs done, which erased all the data on the computer (done by a professional). Ever since I have been unable to open up inventor. I have tried the solutions posted on the forum, none of them really working. I have reinstalled it a couple times now, still not able to fix the problem.
2. Try closing Inventor then deleting the folder 797I1_2017.0.0.F at "C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\CLM\LGS", then restart Inventor. This should get you back to the licensing dialog to reenter your licensing information.
I tried the first 3 solutions, inventor is still not opening properly. I was unable to complete the 4th step since I was not able to fine the "productname201xENUAdlm.log" file (the file was not hidden either). The only other log file that anywhere close to that is shown in the screenshot taken.
Another odd thing that happened was after removing the license. While trying to re-registering inventor, when I clicked on the serial number option, rather than allowing me to register the product, the page immediately closes when I click the serial number option.
Hi! Another possibility is that Inventor 2017 is not properly registered on your machine. Please take a look at the following thread. It is a long thread but there is a confirmed solution. It applies to 2018 but it should apply to all releases.
Why was the Industrial Revolution successful at generating sustained growth? Some have argued that there was a fundamental change in the way that new technology was developed during this period, but evidence for this argument remains largely anecdotal. This paper provides direct quantitative evidence showing that how innovation and design work was done changed fundamentally during the Industrial Revolution. This change was characterized by the professionalization of innovation and design work through the emergence of the engineering profession. I also propose a theory describing how this change could have acted as one mechanism behind the transition to modern economic growth.

The Variable Profile Drain was going to disrupt the world...the very small world of tiled shower installations. I was still fairly new to the professional environment at the time, so it's easy to believe that was in my head. Now years later I've come to realize that my mentality then wasn't much different than that of many successful entrepreneurs today. The difference was that when I came to the crossroads of investing my own time and money to create the product myself vs. walking away, I chose the latter. There isn't a single part of me that regrets that decision. In fact, I appreciate it knowing I found the career I had been searching for. Even more it taught me what to expect in that new career...even if I didn't realize it until now.
