The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by Amar Mohile. Two songs play mainly in the narrative. The first song 'Neend Na Aaye' that plays at the beginning of the film has been sung by Pandit Jasraj.[9] The title song 'Ek Hasina Thi' plays in the second half of the movie.[10]

According to some reports, Siddhanth Kapoor and Ankur Bhatia were signed in to play the characters of Dawood Ibrahim and Ibrahim Parkar respectively. Sonakshi Sinha was first cast to play the aged Haseena Parkar and a debutante was signed in to play the young Haseena, but Sonakshi signed out of the project due to her fixed dates for her movie, Ittefaq, along with Siddharth Malhotra. So Shraddha Kapoor was signed in October 2016 to play both the young and old Haseena Parkar.

The movie was initially planned to be released on 14 July 2017, clashing with Anurag Basu's Jagga Jasoos. It was then delayed to 18 August 2017, clashing with Bareilly Ki Barfi. On 9 August, the producers of the film finalised the initial date of release as 22 September 2017, when it clashed with Sanjay Dutt and Aditi Rao Hydari starrer Omung Kumar's Bhoomi and Rajkumar Rao's movie, Newton.

Renuka Vyavahare of The Times of India gave the movie 2 out of 5 stars, stating, "The crime drama fails to offer an insight into Haseena's life".[14] Syed Firdaus Ashraf from Rediff.com gave the movie 2.0/5 stars, stating, "Shraddha Kapoor tries hard to rescue the film. Shraddha Kapoor deglamorizes herself to get into the character and her sincerity as an actress reflects throughout the movie. It has all the ingredients to make it a blockbuster."[15]

The prime minister asked all concerned to give more attention to making quality movies using modern technology to meet the demand for entertainment of the countrymen as they have earned economic solvency.

She, however, thanked the artistes to perform from the hearts in the Bangladesh-India jointly produced movie "Mujib: The Making of a Nation," which portrayed the life sketch of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

But, she said, she watches Bangladeshi movies whenever she gets time, adding: "I had watched two Bangladeshi movies in Bangladesh Biman while I was going to official visit to South Africa. I have already watched almost all movies stored in the Bangladesh Biman's archive".

The court scenes are purported to be the film's centrepiece but so poorly are they written and executed that they cannot hold the drama together. The lawyers err on the side off hysteria and the magistrate who never yells "order, order" (small mercy) comes across as a taciturn man who prefers to sit back and watch the rigmarole wind its way to its foregone conclusion.

Haseena Parkar cuts a wide swathe through some of the darkest chapters of contemporary Indian history - the Babri Masjid demolition, the 1992 Mumbai riots, the March 1993 serial blasts - as also sundry documented shootouts and gang wars in the metropolis, but it does not weave them well enough into the overarching but single-note tale of a woman left behind in a hostile environment to fight bitter battles for survival and turf protection. Neither the bustling city nor the turmoil that it has encountered in the past quarter century or so is brought alive in a way that could add layers to the narrative and make this a meaningful exploration of criminal minds and their depredations.

The film depicts Haseena's personal relationships, too - with her brother Dawood (played by Shraddha's real-life sibling Siddhanth Kapoor), her husband and small-time movie actor and Nagpada eatery owner Ibrahim Parkar (Ankur Bhatia) and her son Danish (Paras Priyadarshan) - as well as her dark dealings with the D-gang that gave her cover and eventually landed her in court in 2007, the only time in her life that she ever faced direct legal scrutiny despite the many cases registered against her. She is charged with extortion, links with real estate fraudsters and other criminal offences but evidence is hard to gather as nobody has the courage to bear witness against her.

'Mujib' is scheduled to be released worldwide in Hindi and Bengali on October 27. Panorama Studios International will distribute the film worldwide. The movie was screened at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last month.

Sara (name changed) was gripped with fear and frustration while she was covering the 2013 mass agitation demanding trial of 1971 war criminals. The Bangladeshi journalist was wary of backlash from radical Islamists who promised to push out women from the workplace and supported the 1971 war criminals. In this hour of gloom, Sara drew strength from an unlikely source- a movie. But not just any movie. It was a movie about a real-life female leader who lost her entire family, survived a massive terror attack, but repeatedly found courage to move on.

I was shocked to learn, through this movie, that the luxury and comfort that she had been allowed as a daughter of a prime minister was denied outright the moment that status fell off with the death of her father. The foreign diplomat who had so ornately welcomed Hasina and her sister, Sheikh Rehana, to his house changed his mind in a moment, even refusing to offer his car to take them to the airport. Her story of moving on to relentlessly pursue her goal even outshines Hollywood movie plots or Charles Dickens storylines. It's an inspiration for women unwilling to give up," Rafa said.

The 70-minute movie, directed by Piplu Khan and produced by Bangabandhu's grandson Radwan Mujib Siddiq and State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid, required five years of research, story building, shooting, and post-production, setting an example in the visual industry of Bangladesh.

On the whole, EK HASINA THI, in the spirit of RGV's other movies, has some fresh things to say about love, passion, deceit and destiny. The film has all the potential to carve a niche for itself. At the box-office, the theme would not only strike a chord with the multiplex audiences, but will appeal at the grassroots level as well. It has all the merits to grow as days progress. Recommended!
