Just as a "heads up" to all, to beware of a dark brown Ford Excursion. I think the license plate also included the numbers 763 but I didn't get them all. Last weekend while riding with three other riders, I was rolling down Soledad Canyon (west) from Sierra Vista trail when this driver who had been traveling East, decided to perform a "4 point" turn (hey, it was an Excursion) in the middle of the road near the SV trailhead where there were no lanes to turn in to. I saw this with lots of time to slow down and did so but continued to roll. The driver had his land yacht near the end of the procedure and was ready to make the final wide swath to head back west but was clearly going to require most of both lanes yet. At this point I was ~30 feet away and I saw him (and his wife) look directly at me thus I continued to roll along well, to the side thinking he would now wait as I had right of way.... wrong! He gunned it just as I was passing and thankfully, missed me by < 2 ft. Needless to say, being such a mild mannered person, I sat up, looked at him, pointed to my eyes and suggested loudly that he might have a vision problem :) He proceeded to pull right beside me, open his window and loudly express his opinion that *$%&ing cyclists didn't belong on "my road" etc. etc. while demonstrating the length of his middle finger and swerving his truck at me. His wife looked mortified. I had the oppportunity to tell him cyclists taxes pay for the roads too and he needed to learn some road laws at which point he then again gunned it and left. Clearly not a fan of cycling. This guy was very heavyset (maybe thats why he needed the land yacht), black hair, dark complexion, I think a mustache.
Steer clear if you see him.
Cheers,
Rob K.
