11th Shabaan 1435 AH - Birth of Hazrat Ali Akbar(as)

As Salam o alaikum,

11th of Shabaan, 1435 AH - the birth anniversary of Shabih-e-Payamber Hazrat Ali Akbar(as) ibn-e-Imam Hussain(as). He was born in 44 Hijri.

On this happy occasion, I wish to extend my profound felicitations and greetings to Prophet Muhammad(sawaw), Imam-e-Zamana(as), the Ahl-e-Bait(as) and to all Momineen and Mominaat.

His Genealogy

Hazrat Ali Akbar(as) was the son of Imam Hussain(as). His mother was Umm-e-Laila bint-e-Abi Marra ibn-e-Urwa bin Masoos Saqafi. His name was Ali, title was Akbar and kunniat was Abul Hasan.

His association with Prophet Muhammad(sawaw)

Hazrat Ali Akbar(as) had a very close resemblance with Prophet Muhammad(sawaw). That is the reason why he is also known as Shabih-e-Payambar, which means the look-alike of the Prophet(sawaw). He not only had physical resemblance with the Prophet(sawaw) but his character, his courteousness as also his everyday life traits were very much those of the Prophet(sawaw). He had benefited from the training and direct observation of personalities such as Imam Ali(as), Imam Hasan(as) and Imam Hussain(as). His father, Imam Hussain(as) was often heard saying that whenever I remember the Holy Prophet(sawaw) I always look at Akbar.

Some important points to consider

Some historians have raised concerns about the age of Hazrat Ali Akbar(as) and whether he was the eldest son of Imam Hussain(as) or Imam Zain-al-Abideen(as) was the eldest. Let us have a look at these concerns.

Sheikh Mufeed(ar) states his age to be 19 years in Karbala whereas ibn-e-Shahr Ashoob has stated 18 years. Allama Hilli(ar) says the he was 25 years and Fazil Muqaram Najfi states his age as 27 years.

It is very well established that Imam Zain-ul-Abideen(as) was aged 23 years in Karbala and therefore, if the research of Allama Hilli(ar) is accepted as correct, then Hazrat Ali Akbar(as) will be the eldest son of Imam Hussain(as). This is also substantiated by the title AKBAR which is used for the eldest son in Arabs. There are traditions that Hazrat Ali Akbar(as) had been born during the third Khilafa’s time, therefore, his age accordingly would be at least 25 in Karbala.

However, the most widely accepted sayings are that Hazrat Ali Akbar(as) was the second male child of Imam Hussain(as) after Imam Zain-al-Abideen(as) and that he was 18 years of age and still unmarried when the sad event of Karbala occurred. Some believe that his title “Akbar” refers to his great stature with respect to his role in Karbala and does not refer to his being the eldest son.

Readers are encouraged to research more on these concerns to reach their own conclusions.

Poetry about Hazrat Ali Akbar(as)

Ali ke waar ki daali hui nishani hay
Isi se shehpar e Jibreel may girani hay
Darood parrh rukh e Akbar ko dekhnay walay
Rasool e Paak ki charrti hui jawani hay

Husn ka aasman hay Akbar
Khud mujassam azaan hay Akbar
Chowda sadyan guzar gayeen phir bhi
Tu abhi tak jawan hay Akbar

Is baat se zaahir hay rutba Ali Akbar ka
Hota hay azaano may charcha Ali Akbar ka
Shabbit jhulatay thay Abbas ke jhoolay ko
Abbas jhulatay hain jhoola Ali Akbar ka

Poocha gaya Yousuf se jab husn ke baray may
Hans kar kaha ye to hay sadqa Ali Akbar ka
