Start of the 1st Islamic month of Muharram 1440 AH
As Salam-o-alaikum, Start of the new Islamic month of Muharram and the new Islamic year of 1440 Hijri. In many locations, the 1st of Muharram is the 11th of September 2017. Please confirm with your local masjid/imambargah. Some important events of this month are as follows: | 1st | Start of the new Islamic year 1440 AH | | 2nd | Arrival of Imam Hussain(as) in Karbala - 61 AH | | 7th | Water finished in the camp of Imam Hussain(as) and tents moved away from the Euphrates river - 61 AH | | 10th | Day of Ashura - Martyrdom of Imam Hussain(as) and his companions - 61 AH | | 12th | Soyem of the martyrs of Karbala | | 13th | Change of direction of Qibla from Baitul Maqdas to Kaaba - 2 AH | | 17th | Attack of Abraha’s army on Khana-e-Kaaba - 1 Aamul Feel | | 25th | Martyrdom of Imam Zain-ul-Abideen(as) – 95 AH |

Imam Ali ibne Moosa al-Reza(as) said:

“With the advent of the month of Muharram, my father Imam Kazim(as) would never be seen laughing; gloom and sadness would overcome him for (the first) ten days of the month; and when the tenth day of the month would dawn, it would be a day of tragedy, grief and weeping for him".

Imam Ali ibne Moosa al-Reza(as) said:

“O son of Shabeeb! Muharram is such a month that the Arabs of the age of ignorance (pre-Islāmic) too respected its sanctity and forbade oppression and blood-shed in it. But these people (the Umayyads) did not honour the sanctity of this month nor of their Prophet. In this month they killed the son of the Prophet and imprisoned the women-folk after looting and plundering their belongings. Verily Allāh will never ever forgive this crime of theirs.”

غم کی راتیں بُکا کے دن آ پہنچے
فریاد فاطمہؑ کی اجڑی بستی
آبادئی کربلا کے دن آ پہیچے

جب چاند محرم کا آتا ہے نظر لوگو
ذرا سوچا کرو کس طرح اجڑا ہو گا
خاتون کا گھر لوگو

اے چاند کربلا کے
تو نے تو دیکھے ہوں گے
اترے تھے اس زمیں پہ
عرشِ بریں کے تارے
-----------------------------------------------------------
مجلسوں میں جب بھی جائیں اپنے بیٹے بیٹیاں
یاد رکھیں فاطمہ زہراؑ بھی آئیں گی وہاں
گریہءِ شبیرؑ یوں ہو جیسے کوئی بوڑھی ماں
کرتی ہو اپنے جواں بیٹے کی میؔت پر فغاں Iltimas-e-dua,
