7th ZilHijjah 1439 AH - Martyrdom of Imam Mohammad Baqir(as) As Salam o alaikum, 7th ZilHijjah 1439 AH - Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Mohammad Baqir(as) - the 5th Holy Imam. He was martyred in 114 AH through poisoning by Hashsham bin Abdul Malik. On this occasion of mourning in the household of the Prophet Mohammad(sawaw), I extend my condolences to the Prophet Mohammad(sawaw), his Ahl-e-Bait(as), Imam-e-Zamana(as) and to all Momineen and Mominaat. The site is now updated with a profile and life history of the 5th Holy Imam under "Madina/Imam Mohammad Baqir(as)/About" page. You may call it a coincidence or a special arrangement from Allah(swt) that Imam Mohammad Baqir(as) is the fifth Holy Imam and the seventh Masoom (infallible) and his year of birth was 57 AH and his age was 57 years as well. Also he is the first Imam whose name was Mohammad(as) - the same as that of his grand-father Prophet Mohammad(sawaw).
Please visit and read the article to find out: In keeping with the normal practice among the followers of the Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) and his Ahl-e-Bait(as), please offer nazrana and special prayers on this occassion and recite the Ziarat of the 5th Imam which is located at "Madina/Imam Mohammad Baqir(as)/Ziarat" page. Please also recite the Ziarat-e-Jamea which can be found under the 'Ziarat Summary' Section of the Main Page. His martyrdom and burial In 100 A.H. Hashsham bin Abdul Malik became the Caliph. He was a known enemy of the Ahl-e-Bait(as) and he did not waste any opportunity to bring hardship to the Ahl-e-Bait(as). Allam Majlisi writes that during the last days of his caliphate, Hashsham came to Makkah for Hajj. Imam Mohammad Baqir(as) and his son Imam Jafer Sadiq(as) were also present. Hashsham was informed that Imam Jafer Sadiq(as) delivered a sermon among the Hajis that he and his father were the Allah's vicegerent and His command on earth and whoever was their friend and well wisher will go to heaven and whoever is thier enemy will be destined to hell. This infuriated Hashsham and when he reached Damasacus, he ordered the governor of Madina, Ibrahim bin Walid to send the two Imams(as) to his court. Hashsham had planned to malign the Imams in his court but the Imams(as) overturned his plans which further ignited his enmity and he orderd the Imams(as) to be jailed. While in the jail, Imam Mohammad Baqir(as) gave sermons to the other prisoners which created an atmosphere of great enthusiaism and devotion towards the Imam(as) and against Hashsham and sensing the gravity of the situations and the risk of a revolt, Hashsham ordered the release of the Imam(as). He then ordered the governor of Madina that Imam Mohammad Baqir(as) should be poisoned as he is becoming a constant threat (Jala-ul-Ayoon Page 262). The governor of Madina - Ibrahim bin Walid carried out the orders and poisoned the Imam(as) in 114 A.H. Imam Mohammad Baqir(as), lived in this world for a period of 57 years, and in the 114th year of the Hijra, on the seventh day of the month of Zil-Hijjah, in Medina he left this world. He was buried in Baqi cemetry alongside the graves of Imam Hasan(as) and Imam Sajjad(as) in Madina. Special instructions to his son - Imam Jafer Sadiq(as) Before his martyrdom, Imam Mohammad Baqir(as) instructed his son Imam Jafer Sadiq(as) about several issues and said to him that he is hearing the voice of his father who is calling him(Noor ul Absar Page 131). He gave special instructions for his kafan and burial since only an Imam can say the prayers of an Imam (Shawahi-un-Nabowah page 181). Allama Majlisi states that in his will, he also mentioned that 800 Dirhams should be spent on his azadari and mourning and arrangement should be made that the Hajj pilgrims would commamorate his martyrdon in Mina for the next 10 years. Ulema also mention that in his will, the Imam(as) also mentioned that his kafn should be opened after his burial and his grave should not be higher that 4 fingers.
