Rocketeers,
I met with Katie Tauxe and several other Los Alamos High School
science teachers yesterday, and we had a short discussion about Team
America Rocketry Challenge. There was enthusiasm from the teachers
and a general consensus that the high school could support an activity
like this. Of course, the interest from the kids is the unknown. In
September, there will be an opportunity for proposed clubs to set up a
small display in the gym, and the kids can walk around and get a feel
for what's available. I will plan on getting something together, and
see how many kids take an interest. I pointed out that NAR members
can only serve as mentors (there's a registration process), and that
LAHS would be the sponsoring organization and a LAHS teacher would
need to serve as the supervisor. If any of you have advice regarding
a TARC team, I'll gladly take it.
I'll post any progress.

Hey Tom;
Um, the third best national score last year was from a team here in Albuquerque !! .... So *if* you want to speak with that team's mentor, I might be able to get you in touch with them. HOWEVER, I am quite sure that ANY of the NAR members in the ZIA group is qualified to help you as a mentor.
I can say to anyone considering this; that from my personal experience with the Air Force's high powered rocketry program for middle school students, (called "La Luz Academy",) you WILL be richly rewarded for your time spent.

I think if a team gets going here, we would definitely want to talk to those with experience. It seems like such a great program, so I'm hopeful we can get a team of kids together.
